There are many communities that the National Series visits that do not seem to notice when we arrive, Blytheville Arkansas is decidedly not one of them. In fact, Blytheville rolls out the full red carpet treatment complete with visits from the Mayor, complimentary cookouts provided by the fire department and perhaps the best onsite food vendor in all of autocross. This year Doug Gill will again design the Pro courses, while Arkansas Region member Jay Jackson will handle the Tour. Both have designed courses for this site in the past and provided courses that perfectly balanced challenge and fun. There is also the Tri-State Challenge. Born from the tradition of cross-state competition between Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi, this blends aspects of National Tour events with a Challenge format for Solo Triad qualifiers and Saturday class leaders. The Aeroplex site itself is nothing short of massive, acres and acres of smooth concrete allowing for courses that are fast, long and fun. There are only a few hotels in town, so make sure you book early. Many prefer the Quality Inn due to its large outdoor pool and the fact there is a Mexican restaurant is in the same building. Just don’t forget to put on shoes. If you want to get a little more off the beaten path, the Mayor recommended the Sharecropper for southern foods and great pies.
