FAQs

Who do I contact with Region-related questions?

Reach the Region Development team at [email protected], or contact Abby Scher, Senior Manager of Region Development, directly for charter, convention, or Region leadership questions.

What kind of ongoing support does Region Development provide beyond conventions and charters?

The department is a standing resource for Region leadership on day-to-day operating questions — officer transitions, event planning support, understanding Club policy, and general troubleshooting. It also connects Regions to each other and to National programs, so leaders aren’t solving the same problems in isolation.

How does a new Region get started?

A group must organize as a functioning corporation with at least 25 eligible members, an elected governing body, and a plan to hold regular meetings and events consistent with SCCA’s purpose. It also needs approval from the Region currently assigned to that territory, or a successful appeal to the Board of Directors if that approval isn’t granted. Region Development guides prospective groups through the application process to the Board.

Where can I find training for Region leaders?

SCCA offers a variety of leadership and educational opportunities throughout the year, including SCCA Academy courses, Marketing Shadow Sessions, Office Hours, Quarterly Region Meetings, Divisional Conventions, and the National Convention.

How do I update my Region officers?

Region officer information is managed through the Member Account Portal (MAP). Keeping your officer information current ensures the National Office can communicate with the right leaders and provide access to Region resources.

Region Leader Events

Awards
The Region of the Year Award gauges the Region’s management team performance relating to SCCA’s Goals and Business Strategies (Member Experience, Operational Excellence, and Program Development). Winning Region leadership teams are fully engaged with their members and also participate regularly in the quarterly Region RE calls with the SCCA National Office to stay abreast of news and changes, communicating that insight with their members. They also run as many programs as possible, often more than other Regions of their size.
The Tom Burke Awards are presented to Regions for exemplary efforts to activate and grow the SCCA. Formerly named the Chairman’s Award prior to 1987, one award is given to the RE of a Region in each of the Region size categories from the preceding year. The awards are given in honor of SCCA member Tom Burke. His love of SCCA and passion for what we do not only ignited in others a desire to become SCCA members, but also served as a call to engage in SCCA activities. Mr. Burke’s ambassadorial approach to prospective and current members served as a model for the spirit of the SCCA.
