The SCCA Family

The organizations behind the club

Sports Car Club of America™, Inc. is best known as the club — the 70,000-member organization that runs autocross lots, road courses and rally stages across the country. But behind that membership operation sits a small family of affiliated organizations, each built to carry out one specific piece of SCCA’s mission. Some are charitable, some are for-profit, and all of them report back to the same Board of Directors and the same purpose: growing motorsports competition in the United States. Here’s who’s in that family and what each one does.

SCCA Foundation logo

The SCCA® Foundation is the Club’s charitable affiliate — a 501(c)(3) public charity, founded in 1986, that funds programs the Club can’t fully support through membership dues alone. Its mission is to support SCCA in providing inclusive opportunities for motorsports competition, safety, education and historical preservation. In practice, that funding shows up across several long-running programs:

  • SCCA Academy — the Club’s online learning management system, offering certification and licensing courses for volunteers and competitors across all programs. The Foundation helps fund the platform’s continued development.
  • Tire Rack Street Survival — hands-on skills training that helps teen drivers learn car control and crash avoidance.
  • The SCCA Archives at the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, New York — preserving the Club’s competition history.
  • Formula SAE — support and prizes for the collegiate engineering competitions that feed new talent into motorsports and the auto industry.
  • Women on Track, including the Wendi Allen Scholarship — expanding participation and leadership opportunities for women across the Club.

Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible and go directly to these programs.

SCCA VENTURES

SCCA Ventures is the holding company for SCCA’s for-profit subsidiaries. The Board created it in 2017, combining two previously separate, wholly-owned entities — SCCA Enterprises and SCCA Pro Racing® — under one corporate structure with shared administrative oversight. The change was structural, not operational: both divisions kept running independently, and to members and customers, nothing changed day-to-day. A five-person board oversees Ventures and reports to the SCCA Board of Directors, while each division’s own board continues to guide its specific operations.

SCCA Pro Racing logo

Founded in 1963, this is the Club’s professional racing arm, providing sanctioning, event operations and organizational support for top-level road racing in the U.S. It’s one of the longest-standing names in American professional motorsports.

Since 2022, SCCA Pro Racing has licensed its name and day-to-day operational services to Racing America (formerly Parella Motorsports Holdings), which runs privately owned series — most notably the Trans Am® Series — under SCCA Pro Racing’s sanction.

SCCA Enterprises logo

Founded in 1984, SCCA Enterprises designs, builds and maintains the Club’s spec racing cars — a way to keep entry- and mid-level road racing affordable and competitive by controlling the equipment competitors run rather than letting budgets decide the field.

Its lineup includes the Spec Racer® Ford, the newer Spec Racer Ford Gen3, Formula Enterprises® and the Enterprises Sports Racer. Spec Racer Ford has been on track for more than three decades and remains one of the Club’s most-subscribed national classes.

WHY THIS STRUCTURE

Splitting the Foundation and Ventures out from the core membership Club isn’t just bookkeeping. Charitable giving, commercial car sales and professional racing sanctioning each carry different financial, legal and tax obligations — separating them keeps SCCA’s membership dues and Club operations clean of those obligations, and gives each affiliate leadership focused on its own mission and customers.

Together, these organizations extend SCCA’s reach — from a teen driver’s first skills course, to the car a mid-pack racer competes in, to the sanctioning body behind the country’s top professional series — while keeping the Club’s core operation focused on what it does best: grassroots motorsports.
