Bylaws Revision and BoD Ballots Headed Your Way

During the August SCCA Board of Directors meeting, proposed language was approved that would update the current SCCA Bylaws as they relate to voting on matters put in front of members. The full SCCA Board of Directors supports the proposed changes and is hopeful membership will see the value in approving these updates.

In summation, the proposed change would allow for any official SCCA notification/communication in the future to be delivered to the membership in either written or electronic media (e.g., email) form. Notices may be communicated in person, by U.S. postal mail or other method of delivery, by email or other electronic means, or by publication in SportsCar Magazine or any other publication routinely provided by the Club to members. As an example of what the bylaw change would mean to members, future Board of Director Area elections could be communicated via email with information about candidates and how to cast your vote via electronic balloting.

The proposed change offers an opportunity to bring SCCA into modern times, provide significant savings for the Club and provide the Club with the opportunity to efficiently update bylaws in the future to bring us into compliance with Connecticut statutes where we are incorporated. As some people may have questions as to administration of any electronic balloting and communications, SCCA has created an FAQ webpage (https://www.scca.com/pages/scca-bylaws-online-voting-proposition) that answers many questions. Members may also contact the Region Development Department via insideline@scca.com with questions/comments.

Speaking of the Board of Directors, it’s voting season again, with four of the 13 designated Areas selecting members to serve on the BoD. Board members serve a three-year term. This year, ballots are mailed to addresses on record with the SCCA office for those in Areas with an upcoming election. Per SCCA policy, areas without contested elections will not receive ballots and be recorded as a 1-0 election.

Ballots should arrive soon in some mailboxes, but please allow at least a week for ballots to be delivered. Instructions are included with the ballot. Completed ballots should NOT be returned to the SCCA office. Instead, votes will be tallied by Mize Houser & Company. Your ballot is on a postage paid, pre-addressed postcard for your convenience. Simply drop the postcard in the mail when you’re done.

NOTE: A printing error accidently placed a “static” email address at the bottom of your postcard. Please disregard.

Members in good standing as of October 1 shall be eligible to vote. If you feel you did not receive a ballot and should have, or if you have questions, please contact membership@scca.com or call 800-770-2055. Again, please give time for ballots to come through the mail before calling Member Services. Ballots must be returned to Mize Houser & Company by Friday, November 22, 2019.  Areas up for election this year are as follows:
