Famous author Roald Dahl once insisted that, “If I had my way, I’d remove January from the calendar altogether and have an extra July instead.” With the exception of the crew that drives the Tire Rack SCCA® Solo® National Tour and Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo® Series trucks from event to event, we’d be hard pressed to find an autocrosser who disagrees. In 2025, the four July weekends feature six events between the Solo National Tour and ProSolo Series – and four of those happen in just two weekends.
So yeah, no matter what part of the country you live in, there’s really no excuse to miss a National Solo event during the month of July.
Let’s begin with a full American tradition – Bristol on the Fourth of July.
This tradition may not quite stretch 249 years, but there will be plenty of fireworks, as both the ProSolo and the Solo National Tour converge on the “Last Great Coliseum” for a doubleheader weekend.
The ProSolo courses will line up on July 3-4, followed by the Solo National Tour courses on July 5-6. There’s always a crowd, it’s always fun, and even outside the track, it’s Bristol, Baby!
The next weekend (July 11-13) is just as unique, featuring two Solo National Tours on opposite ends of the country. East Coasters and Midwesterners might be interested in Cleveland’s I-X Center, which has become a popular site to run on. The other option on the July 11-13 weekend happens on a coast far away from Lake Erie in Packwood, WA, at Hampton Mills. IYKYK, and the Hampton Mills site is both picturesque and competitive each and every year.
If you do travel from out of town to Packwood, don’t load up too quickly, as a five-day wait will see a new set of cones pop up, this time for the Packwood ProSolo, landing on July 18-20. Yeah, it’s worth a trip – check it out.
Finally, it’s possible to rush back and meet in the middle of the country and check another body of water off the list – though only those whose map doesn’t account for traffic would call the Tire Rack SCCA Chicago Solo National Tour (taking place at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL, during the July 25-27 weekend) as being on Lake Michigan. We will, however, count it as both a strong event and in Chicagoland. We shouldn’t overstate how important this event is, but attendees would not be the first visitors to Joliet to believe they were on a mission from God.
The kids are out of school, the events are close, and the Sept. 1-5, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA National Championships in Lincoln, NE, is just around the corner. It seems you’re out of excuses – what event will you attend in July?
