At A Glance: '18 COTA Hoosier Super Tour

Storylines/Things to Watch:
COTA Movin’ On Up -- In 2017, SCCA’s premier amateur road racing series visited Circuit of the Americas in March.  Last year, it was the first time in four years an SCCA National race had been held at the venue.  In 2018, the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour comes back for a second consecutive year to the challenging 20-turn, 3.41-mile course currently home to Formula One’s U.S. Grand Prix.  This year, however, COTA was moved up a full month in the Hoosier Super Tour schedule and is now the second race on the 10-event calendar.

Big Classes in Texas – A quick look at the driver entry list for the weekend shows another spectacular showing for both the Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford Gen3 classes.  More than 55 SM challengers will be looking for wins this weekend, and more than 80 SRF3 entries will take to the track, too.  A third class to watch will be Super Touring® Lite where a field of nearly 20 cars will be at COTA to do battle.  Follow all the action with live static cameras and Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire at www.scca.com/live.

Texans Dominate Field -- While Hoosier Super Tour weekends draw top drivers from around the country, a strong contingent of Texans have made plans to race in their backyard this weekend in Austin.  Of nearly 300 entries, around 40 percent call Texas “home.”  And some of these drivers are working toward meeting qualification criteria for the 2018 National Championship Runoffs® being held this fall at Sonoma Speedway in Northern California.

Free Weekend at COTA – Entry to the Hoosier Super Tour this weekend at COTA is free for spectators.  With no rain in the forecast, and temperatures anticipated to be in the mid-60s, it will be a beautiful weekend to be trackside in Texas watching some great SCCA racing, especially when you consider northern portions of the U.S. are anticipating snow and below-freezing temperatures.
