An incredible 270-plus competitors turned times on Memorial Day weekend at the May 24-26, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA® Lincoln Solo® National Tour — the back half of the traditional “Spring Nationals” weekend that hosts both the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo® Series and Solo National Tour events on the large concrete expanse at Lincoln Airpark. This is the same Nebraska site that also hosts the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships in September, making Spring Nationals a must-attend for anyone serious about making a run for a National Championship title.

The weather for the Nebraska Region-hosted event was excellent: overcast and a little cool. Well, that’s not completely true, as Sunday started wet with drying conditions. We’ll get to how that played out in a moment. But first, let’s talk about Cathy Kenny — she was this event’s recipient of the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development program, offering her free coaching from a National-caliber autocrosser. Kenny’s coaching came courtesy of Van Townsend, and ultimately helped her land a solid finish in the Ladies Street Tire Bump class in her D Street Ladies Honda Civic Type R.

Meanwhile, Laney Blume’s performance that put her on top of the Ladies Index earned her the SCCA Women on Track Pay it Forward award, where she can gift a free National Solo entry to a woman from her Region.

Class Competition

No one ever accused the F Modified community of being afraid of a good time, so when the skies opened up, guess who was there? Brandon Thomas was quickest on Monday, but Matt Murphy’s Novakar J9 skated around the course quickly enough to hold his Sunday lead by 0.701sec at the finish.

Mike Casino held the first day lead in SMF through the first and second Monday runs, but didn’t have enough to hold on late. Craig Wilcox put down a third run to jump Casino, ultimately finishing second when Jonathon Bennett laid down a flyer on his last run to win the class.

If there’s ever an award for best rain driver, it might be named after Heath Helmick. Helmick was 1.5sec quicker than any other Solo Spec Coupe driver in the rain, giving him enough of a cushion to jump from fourth on Sunday to the class win by 0.897sec.

Earlier in the day, the dry conditions changed the course.

Jake Rogers dropped a half-second on his final run to take the win in E Street by only 0.205sec over Bartek Borowski in a battle of Mazda Miatas. Greg Reno also retook the lead in D Street on his final run, improving by over one second to lock in victory over Brady Loretz.

Ron Williams got a lone truly dry run on Sunday and coned it away, leaving a small hole to dig out of on Monday. He did it with ease, though, running away to a 0.517sec win in G Street.

The Club Spec classes continue to pick up steam and size. Jeremy Wilson won Club Spec MX-5 by 0.353sec over Ricky Crow; Kristo Kukk was the Club Spec Mustang winner by 0.639sec over Kevin Buchholz; Crissy Hedrick held a 0.885sec advantage over Carla Russo at the end of the weekend in Club Spec Mustang Ladies.

Up Next

Two events in one weekend is the ultimate in fun, so the entire Tire Rack SCCA National Solo program is packing up and heading to Maine for a long weekend in Brunswick — the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Series (June 4-6) and the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour (June 6-8) will offer autocrossers plenty of thrills.

Before that, however, is a Solo National Tour in Bunker Hill, IN, where the Tire Rack SCCA Grissom Solo National Tour will take place May 30-June 1.

Can’t make any of those? There are plenty of other events on the 2025 Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour schedule just begging for you to enter.

Photos by Daniel and Laurie McCelvey

As someone said on social media, the May 22-24, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA® Lincoln ProSolo® was “typical Lincoln autocross” — all in all, that’s a great thing!

Yes, Friday brought changing conditions as it started cool, faded to damp, and eventually got full wet before beginning to dry out again — but Saturday was sunny and dry, which meant the courses were fresh again.

Even so, the action was hot all weekend long, and thanks to Nebraska Region pulling hosting duty, the event was top notch — the Roger Johnson-designed courses were fantastic, too.

Before we get to what happened, though, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development recipient for this event was Kasey Gintner, offering her free coaching from Van Townsend. Gintner put it all together during the weekend and scored a trophy in Ladies Class 2.

Now onto the event…

Class Competition

Let’s begin with thin margins, and it doesn’t get much thinner than A Street Touring®. Vivek Goel was just slightly quicker on one side; Daniel McCelvey was nearly as much quicker on the other side. Put those together, and it was Goel with a 0.009sec margin of victory in class at Lincoln. Razor thin!

Evan Williams posted the drive of Saturday morning in F Street, cutting a tremendous amount of time and taking down a depth of talent including runner-up Sam Strano by just 0.086sec. Impressive!

Ladies Class 1 remained at less than a tenth at the top as well. Nicole Wong was queen of the mountain in an SSP-prepared Chevrolet Corvette at the end of the runs, topping Andie Albin’s F Modified DoofWagon Smitty S by just 0.056sec on the index. Yikes!

That’s just a taste of the competition. The complete class results have more.

Challenging Times

There’s never shame in drawing into the Bonus Challenge, and with most drivers staying for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® National Tour over the two days that followed, the Bonus Challenge competition was legit. Rick Cone made the most of it, taking down Ashley Weaver, Russell Blum, and Martin Matagno to win the Lincoln Bonus Challenge.

Holly Schwedler caught fire during the Ladies Challenge to take victory there. Third in the Ladies Class 1 competition, she drove her E Prepared Honda Civic to an opening round victory over Jordan Towns and Kate Fisher to square off with Kim Whitener in the final. Schwedler took down Whitener for the Ladies Challenge victory at Lincoln Airpark and the top points of the event.

That win meant Schwedler also claimed the SCCA Women on Track’s Pay it Forward award, allowing her to gift a free National Solo entry to a woman from her Region.

After months and months of build-up on his newly purchased F Modified machine, Larry MacLeod showed up in Lincoln ready to march through the bracket in … his old Kart Modified machine. And if that wasn’t enough for Super Challenge competitors to be concerned about, the other side of the bracket had yet another legend, Jeff Kiesel, in his KFR Turbo Sprite.

No surprise, those two matched up head-to-head in the finals. Trying to get the jump, MacLeod had an opening red light, meaning the victory went to Kiesel.

On to Summer

If Lincoln bookends the summer with Spring Nationals and “Nationals” Nationals, then the summer is officially underway in the autocross world!

Next up for SCCA’s National Solo series is Brunswick, which is another doubleheader weekend featuring both the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Series (June 4-6) and the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour (June 6-8). Will anyone pull the double-double?

If you’re looking for some fun in the sun as the summer heats up, the Tire Rack SCCA® Solo® National Tour and Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo® Series have you covered.

For many, summer indicates that it’s time to get serious as they make the final approach and prepare the cabin for landing at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships and the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale at Lincoln Airpark in Nebraska. For others, summer is a signal to check the schedule, pull the car out of the garage, and get some runs in while the weather’s nice.

Regardless of which category you fall into, the Solo National Tour and ProSolo Series have you covered in the month of June.

Kicking the Month Off…

Tire Rack SCCA Brunswick ProSolo
June 4-6, 2025
Brunswick Executive Airport
Brunswick, ME

Tire Rack SCCA Brunswick Solo National Tour
June 6-8, 2025
Brunswick Executive Airport
Brunswick, ME

Let’s lump these two events together — because these two events ARE together! The first weekend of June is a full blast of autocross in Maine, with two days of a ProSolo followed by two days of a Solo National Tour. Those who were in Lincoln for this year’s Spring Nationals understand the fun, the stress, and the reward of trying to do two events in one weekend — and all of those highs and lows keep us coming back.

Will anyone dare to combine Lincoln and Brunswick and get four events in in two weeks? That’s the hard-core autocross challenge of the season.

Then There’s…

Tire Rack SCCA Charlotte Solo National Tour
June 13-15, 2025
zMAX Dragway
Concord, NC

It’s autocross, four wide! Actually, no it’s not. That’s how they do their drag racing down there. But the same site hosts the Charlotte Solo National Tour, a popular site each season. Those in attendance know the event is going to feature strong competition and the high probability of baking sunshine, so grab the sunscreen and that new set of tires and hit the road for some intense competition.

And Don’t Forget About…

Tire Rack SCCA Toledo ProSolo
June 20-22, 2025
Toledo Express Airport
Swanton, OH

Questions remain in the Tire Rack ProSolo Series, and those answers start to come into focus beginning at Toledo.

With events shifting east in the coming months, who will catch the early JCJ Cup lead that Taylour Wargo has built on the West Coast? Will Nicole Wong, Anne Ellis Geraghty, and Kim Whitener continue their razor-thin battle at the top for the Fletcher Cup, or will someone mount a charge to catch them? Get a front row seat by participating in one or all of the upcoming events!

It’s the end of May, so it’s time to celebrate SCCA® member anniversaries once more!

One hundred fifty one Club members celebrated milestone anniversaries in May, with the majority of those 25-, 30-, 35-, 40-, 45-, 50-, 55-, 60-, and 65-year members falling into the 40-year category. That said, the split between 25-, 30-, 35-, and 40-year members is extraordinarily slim this month, with all being remarkably similar.

Looking through the listing below is also quite fun. There, you’ll find familiar names like Solo® stalwarts Katie Lacey and Neal Tovsen, SCCA Hall of Famer Bill Johnson, plus Bob Forsberg, Steve Ulfelder, Robert Morseburg, David Arken, and more!

Then there are the two members celebrating 65 years as SCCA members: Robert J. Brabban from San Diego Region, and D.M. Devine from Chicago Region. Both joined the Club in 1960 — what an amazing time to become SCCA members!

The anniversary listing below notes each member’s name, Region of record, Division, and join/rejoin date. It’s important to point out that join dates for 1980 and earlier may note the first of the month rather than the actual day of membership.
