About me:

I grew up going to Waterford Hills Road Racing Inc. with my dad and then SCCA Nationals with him. Started racing go karts (4 cycle Briggs & Stratton) when I was 12 years old at Flatrock Speedway. I lucked out because the year that I turned 16 was the same year SCCA lowered the age from 18 to 16. So I took my first driver's school at Waterford Hills in an ITS Mazda RX-7. Ran a few races in that car at Waterford, then took my second SCCA school in a GT-2 Datsun 240z at IRP. This was 1995. In 96 I ran some Waterford and SCCA Regional races in the Datsun. Then in 1997 I split the season in Hal Briand's Spec Racer with Keirn Motorsport Ent. I won the Central Division regional championship with a few wins. In 1998 we bought our own SRF from Elite Autosport and ran the full Central Division National schedule with Beau and the guys. I took the pole at the June Sprints setting a new track record in a field of more than 85 cars! Finished the race 3rd while leading some laps. Had a great season capped off with a 3rd place at the Runoffs in my first attempt. Won the Jim Fitzgerald Trophy for Rookie of the Year (in all of SCCA). In 1999, ran the Spec Racer Ford Pro Series and Nationals with Keirn Motorsport. Had a decent year in the Nationals and learned a lot in the Pro series. Finished 4th at the Runoffs in SRF. In 2000, we took the car into our own shop and ran the entire Pro Spec Racer series as well as Nationals. Had numerous podiums and won the Pro Race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the way to finishing 3rd in the points behind Warren Stilwell and John Black. Became great friends traveling the country with those 2 guys! Also, finished 4th at the Runoffs again. Also, in 2000, I entered my first ever Trans-Am series race at Mosport in Ontario. Had to start at the back (32nd I think) and finished a respectable 16th. In 2001, I moved out of SRF to World Challenge GT in a Grand Sport Corvette. Had a mediocre season with the highlight a 4th place finish at Lime Rock Park. In 2002, I ran a BMW 325i with Turner Motorsport in World Challenge Touring Car. Had problems with the car for a lot of the season but still managed multiple top 10's and fast lap of the race in the season finale at VIR. I also ran 3 Trans-Am races with Revolution Motorsports at Mosport, Mid-Ohio, and Cleveland. Cleveland was the highlight with a solid 7th place finish after running most of the day in the top 5. In 2003, I ran the full season in Trans-Am in a Revolution Motorsports Corvette. Had 3 podium finishes in route to finishing 5th in the driver's points and runner up for Rookie of the year. In 2004, I ran the 12 hours of Sebring in a P2 Prototype with American Spirit Racing. We had a tough race and didn't finish. The deal fell apart and the only other race I did that year was in the Dominican Republic in a Trans-Am car and won the race for the local hot shoe looking to secure his championship. Had to take a hiatus from racing after 2004, opened a couple of restaurants in my college town of Kalamazoo, MI. In 2010, I had the opportunity to get back into a Trans-Am car for 3 races at Brainerd, VIR, and Road Atlanta. I also ran a SRF in the Pro races at Brainerd and VIR, finishing 2nd in the rain at VIR. I was hooked again! Funny story in the fall of 2012. I was sitting on my couch looking at Facebook and I noticed a post on the SRF page that was advertising an SRF car COVER for sale. For some reason, I clicked on it (weird since I didn't have an SRF to cover!). The next post down was SRF Chassis #150 for sale! MY OLD CAR!!! I couldn't believe it and figured it had to be fate. So, I drove to New York and picked it up from John Weisberg. The car didn't run many races since I sold it in 2001 to a guy in Seattle. But it had also not been updated at all. In fact, the "Built by Elite Autosport" decal was still on the front fire wall! In 2013, I ran the Majors schedule while prepping the car myself and had a dismal season. The car just needed too much work and I didn't have the resources or time to do anything. I wondered if I had "lost it" when it came to doing well. So, I decided to take 2014 off to save up for the Gen 3 conversion and do a ground up on the car with Elite Autosport (yep full circle!).  Which leads to 2015, running with Elite Autosport in my freshly rebuilt Gen 3 SRF. Beau, Bill, and the guys did a beautiful job rebuilding my car.

2015:  Great season overall!  Ran the Gen 3 in all 6 Majors in the Northern Conference, plus the Daytona Regional in August, and the Runoffs at Daytona.  3 wins (Gingerman, Road America, Michigan), 6-2nds (Blackhawk Farms, Blackhawk Farms, Mid-Ohio, Gingerman, Road America, and Michigan), 3rd (Mid-Ohio), and 4th (Road America - June Sprints).  Won my first ever race at Daytona in the Saturday race at the August regional and finished 3rd on Sunday.  Qualified 9th at the Runoffs at Daytona and finished a disappointing 18th after going off the track on the first lap, filling the radiator opening with grass, pitted to remove, then worked back to 18th from 29th.  BUMMER!

2016:  Had another great season in the Northern Conference SRF3 class.  Ran all 6 Northern Conference Majors and won the Conference Championship!  2 wins at Gingerman and multiple podiums.  Also won both July regional races at Mid-Ohio.  Qualified 9th at the Runoffs at Mid-Ohio and finished second to John Black!  Very happy with the season.  Now time to win INDY in 2017!

2017:  Won 7 of 12 Northern Conference majors in SRF3 including the Northern Conference championship (back to back CHAMP).  2 Hoosier Super Tour wins including Mid-Ohio feature and the June Sprints Dash at Road America.  Finished 5th in the Hoosier Super Tour standings in a stacked field throughout the nation.  Picked to podium at the INDY Runoffs!  Unfortunately, had an incident as the full course yellow came out at the start of lap 2 and had to pit.  Moved up from 67th to 34th after the pit stop.

2018:  Won 9 of 12 Northern Conference majors in SRF3 including the June Sprints and 2nd in the other 3 races. Northern Conference championship for the 3rd time in a row.  Sonoma Runoffs:  had a great showing and finished on the podium in 3rd place.  Won both SRF3 Pro races at COTA following the runoffs.

2019:  Had a tough season compared to previous years.  won 2 of 6 Northern Conference races with the focus on VIR for the runoffs.  Set a track record during the June Sprints at Road America.  Ran the VIR Pro race and podiumed both.  Running strong at VIR but had an incident early and fell back to 23rd but put in a track record laptime and recovered to finish 11th after starting 4th.

2020:  Excited to start the season with the focus on the Runoffs at one of our home tracks at Road America.  Won 5 of 8 Northern Conference SRF3 races entered to again win the Northern Conference Championship.  Had a bad wreck at the last race before the Runoffs and my team had to rebuild alot of the car.  Went to Road America for the runoffs with confidence and an agenda and we WON!!  Won my 1st National Championship in 2020 at Road America!   Also won the Hoosier Super Tour points and as a result of winning the Northern Conference championship, the Super Tour, and the Runoffs, I also took home SCCA Super Sweep honors!  GREAT SEASON!

2021:  Well, we did it again!!  Won the Runoffs at INDY!!  Back to Back National Championships.  The car was amazing at Indy and the crew made a fantastic call to leave the full dry setup on the car(had rained 30 min prior) and it was super fast!  Thank you Elite Autosport!
