A full day of hands-on instruction covering vehicle dynamics, traction management, identifying visuals, and efficient course walking, led by experienced and talented driving instructors. Most schools run on Saturday, with the host region’s regular autocross event the next day so you can put what you learned to use right away.
The full package runs $265 if you’re already an SCCA member. Not currently a member, no worries. The event registration process will help you sign up for your membership (membership dues vary by Region). Starting Line’s Autocross School is the full-day introductory course for brand-new drivers. ProLaunch is a shorter, ProSolo-specific program that teaches the drag-race-style, side-by-side start format — it’s not a full driving school, and the on-track time is limited to practice starts. Driver’s Edge is aimed at drivers who’ve already run regional events and want a guided introduction to the faster pace of Solo National Tour competition.
Yes — bring whatever you normally drive. There’s no special car requirement for Starting Line; the instruction is built around learning your own vehicle’s limits. Best results will be gleaned from a vehicle with a passenger seat so the instructor can ride with you and vice versa.
Yes, that’s the goal. Starting Line is built to take someone with zero autocross experience through a single day of instruction and leave them ready to enter a regular autocross event — which is exactly what the Sunday regional event included in the package is for.
Mostly, yes, though some experienced autocrossers use it as a skills refresher.
Participants must meet the age and licensing requirements established by SCCA and the host Region. Check the event registration page for specific requirements.
Your car in good mechanical condition, a valid driver’s license, comfortable closed-toe shoes (there will be some course work during the school), and a helmet if you already own one. Sunscreen, chair, water, and weather-appropriate layers are smart additions since the school runs outdoors for a full day.
Starting Line schools generally run rain or shine. Learning vehicle control in varying conditions is part of the experience. Participants should check event communications for any weather-related updates.
Check for Starting Line events — schools run at host regions around the country through the season, so availability depends on your region and time of year.
