Sam Fouse, Area 12 Board of Directors Candidate
July 29, 2025

My name is Sam Fouse and I’m introducing myself as a candidate for the Southeast Division (SEDIV) Area 12 Board of Directors seat opening in 2026. The following is an explanation of what the SCCA Board of Directors is followed by a brief description of my journey so far in SCCA.

Your Region’s Board of Directors represents you at the Regional and Divisional levels, while your Area Director represents your Area collectively at the national level. Like just about everything else in SCCA, it’s an unpaid volunteer job. A Director serves a term of three years and may serve no more than two consecutive terms. Please join me in thanking Steve Strickland, whose term expires at the end of this year, for his unselfish, dedicated service to all of us in Area 12 since January 2020.

The SCCA encompasses 13 ‘Areas’ geographically, with Areas 12 and 3 making up SEDIV. The Regions within Area 12 include the following:

Alabama Atlanta Blue Ridge
Buccaneer Central Carolinas Chattanooga
Eastern Tennessee Middle Georgia North Carolina
Old Dominion South Carolina Tennessee
Tennessee Valley

I’ll expand on my experience in future messages, but my journey in SCCA began many years ago in NC Region as a novice autocrosser in a used Honda Civic. It quickly became apparent to me then that nothing happens in SCCA unless someone volunteers, so after 3 years as a competitor, I volunteered to become a Solo Chair for NC Region for 4 years while also continuing to compete. I led events, laid out courses, dodged cones, and shagged them for at least 7 years. My path since then, in no particular order, has included Flagging, EV, Crew (amateur and pro), Racer, Runoffs competitor, SARRC champion, Drivers’ school instructor, Region Member at Large, Regional Executive, Region Treasurer, Race Chair, ECR Committee member, CRB Advisory Committee member, Race Experience Board member and Event Lead, Time Trials and Track Night Coach, and Runoffs Asst. Paddock Marshall.

As Region Treasurer (and before that as RE), and as one of NCR’s two Race Chairs, I’ve crunched budget numbers for events, helped write supps and schedules, crafted e-mail ads, written and mailed out VIP checks, ordered and delivered lunches for volunteers, and even designed and ordered participant gifts and event t-shirts. As RE, I helped create NCR’s Time Trial program and I’ve worked almost all of them as Event Support and a Coach. I’ve recently coached a Track Night event, flagged at a Targa Southland stop, and I can’t wait to experience a Hillclimb as a competitor or volunteer, or both.

I’ve been on ‘both sides of the Armco’, and through all of it, I believe I have developed some feel for the challenges Regions face, and yet I still find I can learn something new at every event. I value your input and solicit your help, and I look forward to the possibility of serving you with SCCA National.

Thanks!
Sam Fouse
