The 15-car E Production (EP) field rolled off the grid under overcast skies and in cool conditions Sunday morning to begin their 13-lap, winner-take-all race around Road America’s legendary 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit during the 63rd Mission Foods SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® — part of the Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing program.
One of 23 contests featured during two Hagerty Race Days taking place Oct. 3-4, 2026, at America’s National Park of Speed in Wisconsin, the EP race was led to the green flag by Tire Rack Pole Award winner Jon Brakke in his No. 89 BMW Z3 car fitted with cantilever tires designed to maximize the vehicle’s contact patch and grip. Tim Schreyer lined up beside him, followed by reigning EP National Champion Tyler Ladd and multi-time Runoffs winner Tony Ave.
Down the front stretch at the start, Brakke ran side by side with Ladd on his right and Schreyer on his left, and the trio went three-wide into Turn 1. Brakke exited Turn 1 with the lead, but Ladd lined up a move through the Moraine Sweep and took it from him in Turn 5.
The opening lap ended with Ladd ahead of Brakke, followed closely by Schreyer in the No. 38 Schreyer Motorsport/Hoosier BMW 325is E30, and Ave in fourth in the No. 4 Mazda Miata. Bill Miller was fifth in a BMW 328is E36, sixth was the Triumph GT6 of Anthony Parker, and Tim Anastopoulos slotted seventh in another BMW 325is E30.
Ladd and Brakke swapped positions for a bit during the fourth lap, but Ladd ultimately remained in the lead. Things got interesting at the race’s midpoint as both Miller and Parker experienced car issues and departed the race, promoting Anastopoulos to fifth.
Ladd opened the next lap with a 0.403sec advantage over Brakke, but the two battled through Turn 5 and up through Turn 6 until Brakke took the lead back. Brakke began lap nine 0.732 seconds ahead of Ladd, with Schreyer still right behind in third. Exiting the final turn on that lap, though, Ladd’s car lazily rotated and ended up in the grass.
Ladd's spin promoted Schreyer to second and Ave to third. Ladd got the car going again and slotted into fourth, with Anastopoulos further back in fifth. That was the order when the checkered flag flew a few laps later, and Brakke won by six seconds to claim his fourth National Championship.
“The tires were great,” Brakke said after the race. “Tim Schreyer and Tyler Ladd did a great job out there and I was just lucky enough to end up first.”
Schreyer’s runner-up finish provided his first-ever trip to a Runoffs victory podium celebration, where he received a commemorative bottle from Mazza Wines, the Official Sparkling Wine supplier to SCCA.
“My tires held on great, and we were really set up for the long run,” Schreyer noted. “I’m wedged here in second between how many National Championships? So, hopefully I’m looking at a future one.”
Ave’s third-place finish was the second time he’s earned a Runoffs bronze.
“We’ve been down on speed with this one all week, and we haven’t been able to find it,” Ave said about his car. “But it was fun. It’s a beautiful fall day and 30 minutes around Road America is nothing to sneeze at.”
The Sunoco Hard Charger Award went to Don Tucker for starting 14th and finishing eighth.
