When Goodyear and SCCA® Road Racing joined forces to have Goodyear supply the spec tire for the B-Spec class from 2024 to 2026, the shift from a previous spec tire came with unknowns. Renowned for close competition, B-Spec racers were attracted to the class thanks to its affordable bumper-to-bumper action that ran from flag to flag – a tire that couldn’t keep pace could drastically upset this formula. In 2023, tire testing was completed, and a contract was signed, with racers entering the 2024 Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing season on fresh Goodyear rubber. With three seasons of intense racing proving the performance, Goodyear and SCCA are now extending the B-Spec tire agreement.
B-Spec racers will continue to utilize the durable and budget friendly P205/50-15 Goodyear Eagle RS D4850 as the spec dry weather tire, with the P205/50-15 Eagle RS-R D4851 as a wet weather option.
There is now three years of real-world data showcasing Goodyear’s abilities in B-Spec, with the SCCA National Championship Runoffs® putting an exclamation point on the performance. At the 2024 Runoffs, the B-Spec Tire Rack Pole was claimed by 0.089sec, with a race that saw the top 10 run in a pack so close that anyone could win. 2025 brought a similar story, with less than a half second margin for both the pole and victory.
“Goodyear has been a great addition to the B-Spec class,” said SCCA Vice President of Road Racing Eric Prill. “The race data and driver feedback on price, durability, and performance show that the Goodyear Eagle RS hits all of the marks the Club looks for when naming a spec tire for a class. We are thrilled to have Goodyear continuing in B-Spec.”
“Exciting racing is what Goodyear is all about, and B-Spec delivers some of the best racing around,” said Goodyear Tire’s Jay Chapman. “Goodyear is proud to continue on as the spec tire for the class, and we look forward to continuing to work with the drivers that have made this class such an incredible success.”
Goodyear will continue supporting the class in a variety of ways, like through its road racing contingency programs that, in 2026, celebrated B-Spec drivers at the Runoffs, Chicago Region June Sprints®, through U.S. Majors Tour Conference participation, and via a Regional driver program.
Goodyear also offers its best practices sheet, offering ideal cold and hot tire pressure ranges specific to B-Spec.
