The roar of the engines and the battles on track might be what draw fans and competitors to SCCA® Road Racing events, but none of it happens without the people behind the scenes. From the volunteers who keep race weekends running smoothly to the mechanics who put in long hours in the paddock and shop preparing, repairing, and perfecting race cars, these dedicated individuals are the backbone of motorsports. Every green flag, every checker, and every memorable race depends on their commitment, skill, and passion. They may not always be in the spotlight, but road racing simply wouldn’t exist without them.
That’s why SCCA is asking for your help in recognizing the members who go above and beyond. Through two special award programs honoring volunteers and mechanics, the Club has the opportunity to celebrate the people who make racing possible. If you know someone whose dedication deserves recognition, now is the time to nominate them for the SCCA Workers of the Year and Mechanic of the Year awards.
SCCA Workers of the Year
With nominations coming from Club members at large, the SCCA Worker of the Year Presented by Mazda awards are selected by the SCCA National Staff with input from Division leadership. This award has the potential to be presented to every worker specialty each year, including Data Acquisition, Emergency Services, Flagging & Communications, Grid/Pits, Race Administration, Registration, Scrutineer, Sound, Starter, Steward, and Timing & Scoring.
Your nomination should include how this person excels in their particular specialty, along with their contributions specific to the 2026 season.
Nominations for the 2026 SCCA Worker of the Year Presented by Mazda awards are due by Tuesday, Sept. 8. The selected volunteers will be recognized during the 2026 Mission Foods SCCA National Championship Runoffs® at the SCCA Worker of the Year celebrations held on Oct. 2 at victory circle on Road America’s front straight.
Mechanic of the Year
SCCA’s Mechanic of the Year award highlights outstanding performances in the pit and paddock, and is chosen by the Road Racing Competition Committee (RRCC) and the SCCA tech staff based on submissions received from the community.
Nominations for the Mechanic of the Year award could include such information as the history of the team, why this person is vital to the team’s success, and perhaps an anecdote that illustrates this person’s dedication to the sport.
The 2026 Mechanic of the Year award will be presented during the 2027 SCCA National Convention, taking place online mid-January.
The nomination deadline for the Mechanic of the Year award is Oct. 20.
