BFGoodrich’s New Performance Driving Guide Is a Can’t-miss Motorsports Tutorial That Will Make You Faster on Track

Longtime SCCA® partner BFGoodrich Tires has expanded its driver education program with the release of its first-ever Performance Driving Guide, an educational resource designed to help drivers refine their skills and better understand vehicle dynamics – but in reality, it’s way more than that. Developed in collaboration with professional driver and educator Ross Bentley and a team of BFGoodrich experts, the guide blends technical knowledge with practical instruction, offering value not only for everyday drivers, but also (and this is where you come in) motorsport enthusiasts who already know a lot about pushing cars to the limit.

The Performance Driving Guide builds on BFGoodrich’s long-standing tradition of empowering drivers through education. About a decade ago, the brand introduced its Ultimate 4x4 Driving Guide, which focused on off-road capability and control in rugged environments. With an equally strong legacy on pavement, BFGoodrich has now built a resource dedicated to on-road performance.

“Creating the new Performance Driving Guide has been a memorable experience for me and our team,” said T.J. Dennis, BFGoodrich Ultra High Performance Brand Manager. “Nearly 10 years after launching the 4x4 Driving Guide, BFGoodrich is continuing its commitment to giving drivers the knowledge and confidence to pursue their passions. I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited to see how this guide empowers a new generation of performance-minded drivers.”

The Pro in the Room

A key contributor to the guide’s depth is Ross Bentley himself. A professional driver and bestselling author of Speed Secrets, Bentley is widely recognized for helping drivers understand the nuances of high-performance driving. Drawing on decades of experience competing at elite levels of motorsport, he has built a reputation for translating complex motorsports concepts into clear, practical guidance. Beyond racing, Bentley is a respected coach and speaker who works with professional drivers, track day enthusiasts, and business leaders.

“Partnering with BFGoodrich to create this performance driving guide has been a fantastic opportunity to share what I’m most passionate about – helping drivers build skill, confidence and real understanding behind the wheel,” Bentley said. “BFGoodrich has a long history of supporting enthusiasts, and their commitment to educating drivers about both vehicle dynamics and tire performance made this collaboration a natural fit. Together, we set out to give aspiring track-day drivers practical, approachable tools they can use to improve every time they’re on the track. I’m excited to see how this guide helps more people discover the joy of driving at a higher level.”

Faster on Track

Beyond a focus on safety and street tire management within the guide, a section that will certainly interest members of the Sports Car Club of America™ is the detailed on-track guidance.

Concepts such as braking techniques, cornering lines, and throttle control are broken down into clear, actionable advice, making them approachable for beginners while still valuable for experienced drivers.

Still, the guide goes deeper, running the gamut from understeer and oversteer to string theory, determining what type of apex is appropriate for which corner, slip angle, right foot vs. left foot braking, curb use, and more. It even dives into mentally processing information at speed while behind the wheel.

The tips offered in the guide will benefit everyone from beginners to those who have spent decades on track.
