RallyCross National Championship Set for an October Return to Topeka

The RallyCross National Championship is unique from other SCCA National Championship events in a multitude of ways, but most notable is that it consistently moves around the country, offering accessibility to the entire SCCA RallyCross community. The inaugural RallyCross National Championship took place in 2007 in Hasting, NE, and since then the event has traveled to eight additional locations, repeating locales only a handful of times. This year, the event will return to Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka, KS, marking only the third time the Club’s pinnacle RallyCross event will take place in Kansas.

Slated for Oct. 6-8, 2023, this year’s RallyCross National Championship will build upon a solid foundation that includes a facility eager to host the event and a central location that encourages participation from across the country.

“Located 230 miles from Tulsa, 250 miles from Indianola, 550 miles from Denver, and 730 miles from Chillicothe – all well-attended locations of recent RallyCross Nationals events– Topeka is undeniably central to where RallyCrossers want to compete,” said Rick Myers, SCCA’s Director of Rally/Solo. “When the RallyCross National Championship was first held in Topeka in 2017, it drew 123 competitors, which is near the cap of what the event can handle at any location. Then in 2020 when the event returned to Topeka during the height of the pandemic, turnout was still a healthy 112.”

Heartland Motorsports Park features a road course, drag strip, and autocross pad, and over the years has hosted not only the RallyCross National Championship, but also the National Championship Runoffs and the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships. Located just minutes from the SCCA National Office, Heartland Motorsports Park regularly hosts SCCA Track Night in America Driven by Tire Rack events and has dozens of hotels located within a 20-minute drive. For those looking to rough it, camping at the facility will also be allowed.

“In many ways, Heartland Motorsports Park is the perfect location for SCCA events, especially ones like the RallyCross National Championship,” said Myers. “The Heartland Motorsports Park staff understands motorsports and the needs of event participants, and have always gone above and beyond. We’re looking forward to an amazing event.”

Tiered registration for the Oct. 6-8, 2023, RallyCross National Championship at Heartland Motorsports Park will open on July 26, 2023. For the latest information, keep an eye on scca.com/rallycross and SCCA’s RallyCross Facebook page.
