Runoffs Support for Lemons of Love

On Thursday, October 8, a socially-distanced golf cart parade through the Runoffs paddock will be held as a fundraising effort for Lemons of Love, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to deliver chemo care packages, provide programs and make “moments” for people impacted by cancer.

Want to decorate a cart? You’ll need to pick up a Cart Number Sign at the SCCA Staff Office, located in the Paddock Press Room next to the fuel pumps. Then, just let your creative side loose and decorate your cart or pit vehicle as ornately as possible!

The parade—starting at approximately 6:30 p.m. Central Time—will begin in the north grass paddock at the tall wooden viewing tower on the south side of the tunnel. If you decide you want to participate late, you can also pick up a Cart Number Signs at the viewing tower just before the parade starts. The procession will proceed to the Hagerty Tech Center. Drivers, workers, crews, friends and family will then vote for the “best-dressed” cart by making online donations to Lemons of Love.

Contactless donations must be made online. During the donation payment checkout, there will be a space that says: “Vote for a Cart: Enter Cart # Here.” The cart that raises the most money for Lemons of Love will be awarded a prize!

Additionally at the Runoffs, Lemons of Love is holding a “Donate to Win” raffle for a CTech Manufacturing service cart. Learn more at the CTECH display found in the Main Paddock north of the Hagerty Tech Center.

Lemons of Love will share chemo care packages with Advocate/Aurora Health Systems hospitals in southern Wisconsin on behalf of the fundraising efforts conducted during the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. To learn more about Lemons of Love, check out their website.

From Digital to Analog

If 2020 has made anything clear, it’s that sim racing is a powerful and popular tool—both as an endgame, but especially as a means to get behind the wheel of a car on the track. Anyone who has tried to purchase a sim racing wheel during the pandemic can attest to the popularity of the virtual sport.

Michael Borden is as close to a hero as there can be for the sim racing community this week at Road America. A heavily invested sim racer, Borden is a contender in Touring 4 this week amongst stiff Runoffs competition, and this is his first appearance at SCCA’s National Championship.

Not to put any additional pressure on the Runoffs rookie, but he’s also this month’s SportsCar cover boy. To read more about Borden, checkout the October issue of SportsCar.
