Mount And Dismount: Just How Much Purple Is At Sebring?

The Hoosier Super Tour events, quite literally, begin with Hoosier Tires. And while the SCCA logo may carry the red, black and white, there’s always a sea of purple at Road Racing events.

For good reason, as the Hoosier Racing Tire team can always be found hard at work. Take this weekend’s event at Sebring International Raceway, hosted by the Central Florida Region, for instance.

With two semi-trailers and another slightly smaller trailer pulled by a pick-up truck, the team at Appalachian Race Tire is keeping busy as the official vendor of the Hoosier Tires this weekend.

A hard-working staff of 12 are parked just inside Turn 17, servicing the more than 300 registered entries that will race on Hoosier Tires. More than 2,000 tires were ordered and shipped on site to be mounted, remounted, dismounted – whatever it takes to keep cars on track.

All of that on a perfectly sunny weekend, with not a rain tire or a rain cloud in sight.

This isn’t the start of the heroic effort of those individuals working this weekend to support SCCA road racers. The same crew, and the same trucks, were at Homestead-Miami Speedway last weekend to service the racers there. None got a chance to stop at home between weekends, and 250 additional tires were shipped directly to Sebring.

Our suggestion is to stop by the trailer if you’re on site at this, or any other event, where the crew is swapping tires seemingly day and night. Say hello, thank them, and, as the sign says – clean your wheels before you drop them off!
