The July 2-4, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Series and July 4-6, 2025, Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour events, both sellouts, both in one location (Bristol, Baby!), and both a season highlight, were like hot dogs and apple pies rolled into one.
The autocross community came together for its annual Fourth of July celebration, and the fireworks were spectacular. Like the best of America, it didn’t matter where the horsepower came from – Europe, Japan, or the U.S. of A. – the name of the game was burning down some tires and brakes. And like true Americana, it was done at the heartbeat of America: a NASCAR track.
East Tennessee Region launched the Bristol Motor Speedway doubleheader like a barge full of fireworks, with Jeff Cox designing a cone-catching course through both events that required an element of conservation along with speed.
For those attending both, the Friday “welcome party” became a halftime break – but with the heat through the weekend, no one batted an eye at the name.
ProSolo Class Action
Starting Thursday, the Tire Rack SCCA Bristol ProSolo was on the gas.
A well-rested Jordan Towns credited her ability to keep it tidy on the left course with victory in the Ladies 2 class. Towns was 0.094sec quicker in her Supra than Chris Peterson was, with Jennifer Bedell just another 0.080sec back from Peterson in a tight race.
There was less than a second between Andrew Aul in first and David Prather in seventh in C Street, meaning positions changed often throughout. Aul’s Mazda MX-5 was on top, followed most immediately by Andrew Pallotta and Jack Crissey on the time sheets.
In D Street, Alex Piehl was the one to beat, coming out of the gate strong, then locking in the 0.395sec win over Brandon Porambo come second-day runs.
Piehl gets more credit for the Bristol weekend then that class win, though, as he worked as a coach for the SCCA Women on Track Driver Development Program, assisting L3 driver Cynthia McLearen during the ProSolo event and H Street’s Ariel Rudolph for the Solo National Tour.
Marcus Pynes threw down his best two runs of the event on his final two runs, and they were needed. They lifted Pyne over A Street Touring rival Will Teller by just 0.030sec to take the class victory. This apparently didn’t rattle Teller too much, because later in the event…well, we’ll get to that in a moment.
To discover what happened in the other classes (like how Matt McBee and Shawn Gebbia did during their very first ProSolo weekend thanks in part to entry-fee funding supplied by the Howard Duncan Greenlight Fund), check out the class results.
Solo National Tour Class Runs
ProSolo Challenge action, presented by Vitour, wrapped the ProSolo event – but first, let’s look at the class action from the Solo National Tour portion of the holiday weekend.
Proving the growth and the concept, both Club Spec Mustang (CSM) and Club Spec MX-5 (CSX) were healthy classes at Bristol. Ricky Crow led the way in the soft tops, taking the biggest trophy for the class in commanding fashion, with a 2.277sec lead over Carlos Morales. Kristo Kukk was the quickest in the Mustangs, power-sliding his way to the lead and holding on for the runs – had it not been for the huge margin of victory in CSX, we’d talk about how dominant Kukk was, besting second-place Jeffrey Pilson by 1.225sec.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the OG of the autocross spec classes, though: Solo Spec Coupe. William Bostic drew aces to come out 0.327sec ahead of co-driver Mike Casino. Stephanie Wells, meanwhile, ran the table in Solo Spec Coupe Ladies, coming up 0.828sec ahead of Meredith Brown.
Jordan Welch brought some drama to Classic American Muscle Traditional, finding seven tenths on his last run to take the class win over Courtney Cormier by 0.178sec.
Check out the results listing for more of the action.
ProSolo Challenges
Flipping back to Friday, the ProSolo Challenges presented by Vitour brought more excitement and more points to the JCJ and Fletcher Cup.
In the Bonus Challenge, George Schmit made the most of his opportunities. Schmit’s E Street Mazda took down, in order, Nathaniel Mehl, Sharon Bronson, and Glenn Austin for extra runs and tons of fun.
The Ladies Challenge bracket showcased tons of quick drivers. Jordan Towns took down Jen Fox and Stephanie Wells to land in the finals against Meredith Brown. Brown had eliminated Cindy Duncan and Lana Portanova along the way, leading to the final showdown. Brown capitalized in the final, with Wells winning the third-place match-up.
Will Teller may have been second in the class runs, but he redeemed himself on Friday afternoon for the Super Challenge. After taking down Dan Cochran and David Marcus, Teller landed in the final against Super Street class winner David Entz. Teller stayed the course, claiming victory against Entz to earn the Super Challenge win.
