At A Glance: Mid-Ohio Hoosier Super Tour

Storylines/Things to Watch:
Eastward Bound -- The previous two Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour events took place on the West Coast at California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park and Portland International Raceway in Oregon. But the Hoosier Super Tour now moves back east for the remaining three events of the season. First up: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, a weekend hosted by the SCCA’s Ohio Valley Region. Then the month of June concludes with the WeatherTech Chicago Region June Sprints and the Hoosier Super Tour finale at Watkins Glen International, hosted by the SCCA’s Finger Lakes Region.

Mid-Ohio Racing Reroute -- Exactly 365 days ago, the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour visited Mid-Ohio as a precursor to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs being held a few months later at the same venue. Back then, the Mid-Ohio Majors Tour course layout mimicked that of the Runoffs, a 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit. But this time, things have changed. The Hoosier Super Tour stop this weekend at Mid-Ohio will utilize the original, classic 2.4-mile, 14-turn “Club Course” that incorporates the old-school “Chicane” delivering drivers unto the “Keyhole.”

The 300! – At nearly 300 entries, the battle for Mid-Ohio will rage! Spec Racer Ford Gen3 arrives at almost 40 warriors. Spec Miata is there, too, with a similar field size that includes Justin Hille, the defending SM Runoffs Champion. Keep an eye on the Super Touring® Lite crew amassing 14 challengers, and a strong Touring 4 group. Solid fields in E Production, H Production and Formula Vee will likely thrill as well.

The Great Equalizer – Generally speaking, great weather has graced Hoosier Super Tour events all season. But the forecast for the coming weekend at Mid-Ohio looks to contain at least one day of rain. That could make for some really interesting racing. Thankfully, temperatures only look to be in the mid-70s, so it won’t be a sauna.
