At A Glance: VIR Hoosier Super Tour

Storylines/Things to Watch:
Halfway -- After Saturday competition at VIRginia International Raceway, the 2017 Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour will be at the midpoint of the 11-venue, 22-race season. That means time is running short for those looking to qualify for the 2017 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® being held this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. And since the Hoosier SCCA Super Tour Point Championship can only be won with Hoosier Super Tour participation combined with a Runoffs result, the weekend competition at VIRginia International Raceway has great impact.

North vs. South – As Hoosier Super Tour competition shifts to the northern part of the United States this racing season, the VIRginia International Raceway weekend marks a final southern swing for the series. The competition at VIR is a shared Southeast Conference/Northeast Conference event, hosted by the SCCA’s North Carolina Region. Some of the best SCCA road racers from the North and South will meet this weekend, and the battle is likely to be fierce.

Stout Fields -- With 350 participants schedule to compete this weekend at the VIR Hoosier Super Tour, it’s no surprise that a couple classes have some very solid fields. The Formula F group looks to be about 23 competitors strong. The combined Spec Racer Ford and Spec Racer Ford Gen3 group, which pulled together two very exciting races last year, checks in at 54 drivers. And Spec Miata is looking at a 50-car field.

Mother Nature Nice – Generally speaking, weather for 2017 Hoosier Super Tour events has been absolutely amazing. That trend looks likely to continue this weekend in Alton, Virginia, as there’s only a very slight chance of rain Friday or Saturday. Temperatures all weekend look to be in the upper 70s to low 80s with humidity hanging around 50 percent. Going to be a great weekend for racing.
