Sports Car Club of America® hosts the 2025 National Championship Runoffs® Presented by Sunoco on Oct. 2-5 at Road America in Wisconsin. The thing about that magnificent venue, known as the National Park of Speed, is it offers the greatest of spectator experiences. Giant video screens to watch the action are located around the circuit, and there are ample fans on sight to cheer and chat with while seated on the hills that surround the famous road course. Oh, there’s fantastic food and an extremely electric atmosphere, too.
To further enhance the spectating experience, those at Road America can use mobile phones to follow the action around the 4.048-mile course. Through SCCA.com/live, an audio-only broadcast and live timing/scoring will be available during qualifying. Smartphones can also provide video race coverage from around the circuit during Hagerty Race Days (which take place Oct. 4-5), filling in important developments perhaps missed wherever the fans are standing.
And thanks to the internet, that same qualifying and race broadcast coverage is available to everyone around the world unlucky enough to not be at Road America during the Runoffs.
Whether you’re at the track or a zillion miles away, follow Runoffs action live and online at the link below.
Seasoned Anchors
Once again, SCCA has gathered a fantastic cadre of capable commentators to bring the action alive during the 2025 SCCA National Championship Runoffs Presented by Sunoco.
With a serious storehouse of motorsport and Runoffs knowledge, SCCA’s National Championship welcomes back livestream broadcast anchors John Fippin and Ryan Myrehn. A duo steeped with skill and Runoffs history, their verbiage will again deliver corner-to-corner, wheel-to-wheel excitement as they swap duties across both Hagerty Race Days.
Since 1985, Fippin has been the voice of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for IndyCar, IMSA, AMA Pro, ARCA, SVRA, and NASCAR Xfinity and Craftsman Truck visits. He also lends his voice to the FIA-certified F4 United States and Formula Regional Americas Championships’ broadcasts.
Fippin was selected as track announcer for the inaugural FIA Formula One Miami Grand Prix. But Runoffs aficionados likely associate his familiar voice more with Mid-Ohio Runoffs calls trackside, or online as he’s been part of the video portion of the Runoffs broadcast team since 2021.
“My very first announcing gig was the 1985 IMSA Columbus Ford Dealers 500, followed by my debut at Mid-Ohio, where I still work,” Fippin noted. “I’ve been blessed to work the Runoffs for the past 30 years, only missing four along the way. I don’t think there’s a better weekend of racing anywhere on the planet.”
Myrehn has crisscrossed the globe since 2016 to cover events as diverse as the Indianapolis 500, 24 Hours of Le Mans, NASCAR’s Brickyard 400, Formula E, 24 Hours of Spa, Long Beach Grand Prix, Lamborghini World Final, and much more. A Sportscar365.com journalist for several years, he also hosted the weekly Double Stint podcast.
It was 2020 when Myrehn last called Runoffs races for broadcast, sharing duties that year with esteemed announcer Bob Varsha. A pit lane reporter for IndyCar Radio, he is also lead commentator for SRO Motorsports Group’s television coverage, and helms Formula E on CBS. Furthermore, he fills various booth and pit lane roles covering IMSA.
"I'm thrilled to be returning to the broadcast team for the prestigious SCCA Runoffs,” Myrehn said. “The passion of the racers who take part in this event is unsurpassed anywhere in motorsports and makes for dramatic moments every year. For some, this event jumpstarts a pro racing career like so many have before them. The opportunity to tell these unique racing stories is what makes calling the Runoffs a highlight of my professional year."
Insight Support Squad
Fippin and Myrehn closely follow on-track battles, but livestream video coverage would be incomplete without additional insight. For another year, that important info will be supplied by Heyward Wagner, Tom O’Gorman, and Larry “Lefty” MacLeod.
Live video requires a “sexy” element, which is why Wagner is back again for a 12th year. He’s kind of like a “Danica” – but with a red beard that keeps growing over 48 hours of Hagerty Race Day coverage. An entity rumored to have been conceived within an SCCA volunteer enclave at Road Atlanta, Wagner swims his way back into the hearts of Runoffs broadcast viewers each year to spawn passion for #funwithcars.
Trolling grid to gain info just before competitors head on track, Wagner adds critical insight prior to Runoffs races. He then captures raw emotion during post-race interviews with the top three finishers from each class.
“After the Championship race, I have often said pit lane reporting is special because you get to talk to people on one of the happiest days of their lives,” Wagner admitted. “Sure, weddings and babies being born are great days, too, but the joy of a Runoffs win comes with a lot less future complication.”
Pro driver Tom O'Gorman, who also covers pit lane every now and again, spends the bulk of his Runoffs providing color commentary. A six-time Solo® National Champion and two-time ProSolo® Champion, O’Gorman got his start in 2018 with the Runoffs broadcast team. Since then, he has gone on to add his voice to Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour broadcasts, as well as several series outside of the SCCA circle.
“One of the reasons the Runoffs stands out to me is its ‘winner take all’ format because many other road racing series have championships that unfold over a season,” said O’Gorman, who has also been a trackside commentator at SRO weekends. “On a personal note, the Runoffs has been my favorite race weekend since I was 4 or 5 years old. My dad and I went to every spectator weekend at Mid-Ohio starting in the mid-’90s. I knew when we went to the Runoffs, we got multiple days of non-stop action with every kind of car I could imagine.”
MacLeod will be splitting booth duties with O’Gorman again this year. An accomplished autocrosser on his own, MacLeod also has claimed six Solo National Championships and two ProSolo Championships. On top of that, he was named Solo’s 2022 Driver of Eminence.
The Tire Rack Solo National Championships is where MacLeod cut his teeth as a play-by-play announcer, serving as Solo Nationals Chief of Announcers from 2018-’23. It was 2018 when MacLeod also joined the Runoffs broadcast team as a color commentator. For the past several years, he has also helped with Hoosier Super Tour broadcasts when called upon.
“My favorite parts of the Runoffs are the stories told by the drivers and crew,” MacLeod said. "The common bond amongst them all is a willingness to face struggles along the way in the hope of achieving just a single moment of elation. I love sharing the stories of both the struggles and the wins as part of the Runoffs broadcast every year.”
Crucial Qualifying Audio Coverage
While two Hagerty Race Days put exclamation marks on the season of many SCCA competitors, a big part of the story unfolds Oct. 2-3, 2025, during qualifying. That includes Sunoco 260 Thursday and Hawk “Brake-Through” Performer Friday, with Tire Rack Pole Award celebrations capping qualifying efforts. Because those two days are so important, live timing/scoring and audio coverage is provided at SCCA.com/live.
Gregg Ginsberg and Dan Bullis will be seated behind microphones at Road America to cover Runoffs qualifying developments. For Ginsberg, this will be his ninth year lending talent and knowledge to that audio presentation. A member of the Club for nearly 25 years, he has competed in Improved Touring and H Production, as well as the first-ever Super Touring® Under National Championship race at Road America.
On the broadcast front, Ginsberg’s voice has been part of the Hoosier Super Tour for several years, as well as the voice of online coverage for multiple events hosted by SCCA Regions. To prep for his qualifying duties, Ginsberg works grid during Runoffs test days to gather info later shared with the listening audience.
"I’m looking forward to again heading up qualifying coverage at the Runoffs,” Ginsberg said. “After so many years of absorbing the SCCA experience and growing with the Club, I find nothing more exciting than when the next generation of racers emerge or a dark horse comes to the fore. I get a chance to help tell their stories, whether they show signs of becoming the youngest National Champion ever or they simply shine when that pole day pressure descends."
While this will be Bullis’ first time working the qualifying audio broadcast, he’s no stranger to microphones or the Runoffs. For three of the last four years he has served as Runoffs victory podium emcee, interviewing the top three finishers from each car class. He has also spent 13 years as an NHRA announcer at Portland International Raceway’s dragstrip and been part of the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships announce squad for three years.
“When you have a chance to see Runoffs-level competition at a world-class track such as Road America, you don’t say no to that opportunity,” stated Bullis, who has earned 25 trophies as a competitor in both SCCA National Solo and ProSolo competitions. “To now have the opportunity to call qualifying for SCCA Road Racing’s National Championship is something I could never have imagined in even my wildest dreams.”
Wait, There’s More …
Not enough Runoffs broadcast coverage for you? Don’t worry, there’s a little something more during Hagerty Race Days as Brian Bielanski returns with the Inside the SCCA podcast presented by Goodyear on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-5. Those presentations, which occur about an hour prior to the day’s first race and during lunch breaks, can also be found at SCCA’s Official YouTube Channel.
It was 1986 when Bielanski first got involved with SCCA. Since then, he's been a driver, crew chief, mechanic, and worked most of Road Racing’s specialties. He's also driven at the Solo Nationals and in RoadRally.
Professionally, Bielanski has been a journalist since 1988, starting in radio in Winona, MN. From there, he held staff positions with CNN in Atlanta and CBS News in New York, as well as working freelance for more than a dozen broadcast, print, and web outlets. He's currently a Producer/Editor for KNX News Radio in Los Angeles, but many recognize his voice from Hoosier Super Tour broadcasts.
“With the help of Goodyear Racing Tires, the Inside the SCCA team is proud to bring the show back to SCCA’s National Championship," Bielanski said. "For a fourth year we are providing the Runoffs pre-game and halftime shows during Hagerty Race Days. We’ll be telling the stories of the drivers and people behind the scenes who make the Runoffs one of the best racing events in the world."
