At A Glance: Sebring Hoosier Super Tour

Storylines/Things to Watch:

First Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour Race Weekend – The very first Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour event takes place January 13-15 at the historic Sebring International Raceway. The premier U.S. amateur road racing series, Hoosier SCCA Super Tour is comprised of an exciting, 11-weekend schedule that brings together top SCCA Club competitors from throughout the country. Visiting some of the greatest tracks in North America, each weekend consists of two races for each of 28 car classes. From GT cars to production vehicles, formula cars to prototypes, the Hoosier Super Tour packs a ton of great action into each and every weekend. This first race also marks the launch of Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire, an audio broadcast available through SCCA.com or Performance Motorsports Network that offers live coverage of racing throughout the weekend delivered by an experienced team of commentators.

Strong Showing for Season Start -- Nearly 370 entries are expected for the Hoosier Super Tour event at Sebring International Raceway. Across the 28 classes, the names of several SCCA National Championship Runoffs® winners can be found on the entry list along with a bunch of top-notch competitors. Many of the drivers this weekend also competed last weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the first U.S. Majors Tour® event of the year, taking the opportunity to log two race weekends back-to-back in Florida on the way to fulfilling SCCA National Championship Runoffs qualification criteria to participate on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in late September.

Groups and Classes to Monitor -- Group 4 this weekend, featuring Spec Miatas, has 75 entries and will likely provide two very exciting races. Group 3, combining Spec Racer® Ford and Spec Racer Gen3 classes, also has a healthy showing with nearly 70 racecars in that field. And the GT-1 class contained within Group 5 is looking at nearly 20 entries, along with nearly a dozen GT-2 racers.

A Winter Respite – While the weather forecast for a lot of the United States this weekend seems to verge on yucky, the prediction for Sebring is partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 70s and just the slightest chance of rain. However, it’s Florida … so rain is always a possibility. But at least it isn’t snow or sleet. So if you can get to Sebring for this Hoosier Super Tour event, do it. Admission is free for spectators.
