With an aim to increase the participation of women and girls in all aspects of motorsports competition, the SCCA Women on Track initiative has announced its 2022 SCCA Women on Track Road Racing School Scholarship.

Two recipients of this year’s SCCA Women on Track Road Racing School Scholarship will receive $1,000 each, with the scholarship helping fund their entry into the sport of road racing. Applicants need to be a member of the SCCA and must be interested in participating in road racing upon graduation from a road racing school. Ideally, recipients should have a race car available to them for their competition school, although loaner race cars specific to this scholarship are available in certain portions of the country.

“Our ongoing goal is to increase the active participation of women and girls in road racing,” said Cherie Storms, Chair of SCCA Women on Track’s Road Racing Committee. “We do this by promoting opportunities designed to encourage new enthusiasts to enter the sport and enabling their interest with straightforward information required to compete on track or volunteer at events.

“We strive to build women’s belief in their potential and foster an ‘I can’ attitude toward motorsports by sharing profiles and achievements of current women participating in motorsports through our Facebook page and website, and strive to retain current female enthusiasts through recognition of achievements and ensuring the community is an inclusive and safe place for everyone. We support female driver development through mentorship, training and now our first scholarship.”

The SCCA Women on Track Road Racing School Scholarship application deadline is May 15, 2022, with completed submissions being reviewed by the SCCA Women on Track Scholarship Committee.

The third stop on the 2022 Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials National Tour Powered by Hagerty is fast approaching, as an extremely competitive field is headed to Eagles Canyon Raceway (ECR) in Decatur, Texas, April 22-24, 2022.

Gates open at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 22, with competitors able to check in and go through tech from 4-7 p.m. local time. Those reaching the racing circuit after 7 p.m. on Friday will be able to begin the process at 7 a.m. on Saturday before the 8 a.m. driver briefing and 8:30 a.m. pace laps, which get the event officially underway.

Similar to the Time Trials National Tour at Sebring International Raceway, Eagles Canyon Raceway features a mix of long, fast straights and technical corners. Unlike the last stop, ECR has 200 feel of elevation change and wide-open spaces to absorb those rare mistakes while navigating the challenging 15-turn, 2.7-mile circuit.

And about that strong field? Some of the best from the SCCA Time Trials National Tour are on the entry list. Doug Wille and Jackie Mutschler will be at the event in their 2022 Camaro SS, following fast runs at the Sebring event, and Andy Hollis is expected to attend with his McLaren after setting the fastest overall lap at the Time Trials National Tour season opener at Carolina Motorsports Park.

All in all, it’s an unbelievable opportunity to test your track driving skills, both against other drivers and yourself, for an exceptional price.

The event follows the familiar Time Trials National Tour format. Practice sessions on Saturday morning give way to Time Attack 1 in the afternoon, followed by the Hagerty Social Dinner after the final checkered flag of the day. Sunday features a TrackSprint session, running just a portion of the track from a standing start. Time Attack 2 on Sunday afternoon is the final chance to put it all together and lay down the ultimate flyer before the KONI Podium Celebration.

Not ready for timed competition? The weekend also features a Track Event – an untimed lapping program for casual on-track fun.

Bring your friends and family, come for the party and drive quickly and safely at Eagles Canyon Raceway.

Looking for an inside line on the Club? “Inside the SCCA” is a podcast that features interviews with the Club’s leading personalities, but it’s not owned by SCCA. Instead, it’s an independent media outlet managed by Rule 15 Productions and hosted by longtime SCCA Member and journalist Brian Bielanski. He uses the Club’s name with permission, but without direction or influence from SCCA.

Episode 39 of the “Inside the SCCA” podcast remembers Scott Rettich, who passed away unexpectedly this week at the age of 37. Scott was a seven-time SCCA National Champion and owner of Alliance Autosport, which provides rental and car prep services for Spec Racer Ford and FE2 cars in the Great Lakes Division. Scott was one of those rare talents — a great driver, coach and mentor — who will be greatly missed. Alliance teammates Tora Bonnier, Amy Hollowell and Al Hostettler, along with friends Frank Schwartz and Steve Ray, join the podcast to share stories about Scott, his accomplishments and his legacy.
