The early registration period for the SCCA RallyCross® National Championship ends at Midnight (CDT) on Sunday, August 31, with the entry fee increasing $25 after the deadline from the early bird price of $115.
The 2014 edition of the RallyCross National Championship takes place Oct. 3-5, at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. A 125 driver cap has been imposed for this year’s event, a change from past years. While this number accounts for an increase in participation, there are still limited spots available.
Normal registration for the event for those racers who miss the early deadline will run Sept.1-Oct.1. Drivers can register through MotorsportReg.com. Registration fees will be due, in full, at the time of registration. Refunds will be provided for cancellations received by Oct. 1. Competitors who sign up after the 125 entry limit is reached will be added to a waiting list. Fees for these entrants will not be collected until they are officially added to the event.

2014 RallyCross National Championship
Butch Kummer has announced that he will resign from the Club Racing Director position at Sports Car Club of America, effective the end of September 2014.
Kummer joined the staff in 2012, tasked primarily with the operational launch of the new SCCA U.S. Majors Tour program.
“My directive from the beginning of this project was to elevate the status of ‘national’ racing, and working together over the past two years I feel we have delivered a product that clearly differentiates our highest level of amateur competition from ‘just racing,'”Kummer said. “Certainly, the most dramatic change was developing a schedule with fewer conflicting events which resulted in increased participation and competition. In addition we’ve increased consistency in event structure/operation and improved recognition of our events. “
“I accept Butch’s resignation with some melancholy, as he and I have worked on the Majors project together since he began with us two years ago,”SCCA President and CEO Lisa Noble said. “We all wish him success as he looks at what the next steps in life bring and I’m sure we will see him continue with the SCCA in some role.”
SCCA will announce a succession plan for U.S. Majors Tour oversight shortly. Kummer will remain on through September in a transitional role.
The 2014 ProSolo® season comes to a close this weekend with the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Finale, Aug. 30-31, at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airpark.
ProSolo is a combination of the best features of drag racing and autocross, with head-to-head elimination races against another driver on the opposite, mirrored course. The racers are signaled to start their run by a drag-race-style ‘Christmas Tree’ and the first driver to the finish wins the matchup.
The top 32 drivers from open class qualifying on Saturday and Sunday morning are seeded in a single-elimination Super Challenge bracket for Sunday afternoon, with the winner of each matchup continuing toward the bracket final. The Ladies Challenge is run similar to the Super Challenge with a maximum of 16 drivers, depending on the number of entrants among the three ladies classes.
Erik Strelnieks is the season-long Super Challenge Championship leader. His two best finishes in bracket competition equaled 85 points in the battle for the JCJ Cup. Strelnieks is on the hunt for his second JCJ Cup after taking home the Championship in 2005.
Greg McCance sits only four points behind Strelnieks in the standings, which counts the two best finishes plus the Lincoln finale in the championship. This season McCance has done one thing that Strelnieks has been unable to do – score a Super Challenge win. McCance was able to take home the bracket win in the second round at El Toro, while Strelnieks’ best finish was as runner-up at Mineral Wells.
Paul Russell is trying to improve on his career best second-place finish in the season-long standings from two years ago. Currently he sits third, having amassed 74 points. Behind Russell are a gaggle of other drivers that have a chance at taking the overall Championship home, including multi-time Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Champions Mark Madarash and Jeff Kiesel.
Annie Gill holds the top position in the fight for the Ladies Challenge Championship, the Fletcher Cup. With bracket wins at both Crows Landing and Packwood, Gill enters the competition with 109 points.
Kim Whitener sits second in the standings, only five points behind Gill. Whitener is the two-time defending Ladies Challenge Champion and can become the third driver to win three straight Ladies titles, joining Beth McClure-Strelnieks and Stacy Reitmeir.
Jocelin Huang is currently third with 103 points, following Ladies Challenge wins at Mineral Wells and Lincoln. Close behind Huang are Christine Grice, Shelly Monfort and Chris Peterson. The top six positions are covered by 15 points.
The Super Challenge and Ladies Challenge Championships will be decided, once and for all, at the Lincoln Airpark Aug. 30-31. Live results can be followed at https://sololive.scca.com/.
