The Solo Events Board has withdrawn the proposal published in the July Fastrack to put the Toyo Proxes R1R 195/50-15 tire on the exclusion for the Street Touring Category in 2013. The performance of this tire has generated a lot of controversy and kept the internet boards and forums humming. Despite some SEB members concerns about the performance of the tire, the overwhelming majority of member input supported keeping the tire as an option for Street Touring Classes. as a result, we will not put the 195/50-15 Toyo on the exclusion list for 2013.

This does not affect the recent rule change in Road Tire to raise the tread wear rating to 180.

The SEB also raised the upper age limit for FJB from 11 years to 12 years effective immediately. This will allow an FJ competitor to choose whether to run in FJA or FJB while they are 12 years old. We felt it was unfair to force a FJB driver to move up to FJA as soon as they turn 12. Their birthday can be in the middle of the season and the change can be very disruptive.

When a new registration program comes on the scene it takes some getting used to and unfortunately once we get used to something, we don’t go back and review our information very often to make sure that it is correct. Doesn’t it frustrate you when you check in and they don’t have a tire listed for you and you just KNOW you have one listed on motorsportsreg.com?  Or you just KNOW you changed it?  Well, this is just a short little article to first of all remind you to check your car information, class and numbers when you register just to be sure that what motorsportreg.com (MSR) has is what you know should be there. Also, while it is not a required field, completing the tire information when you register will save you time when you check in at Nationals and at future National events.

Even if you have registered, you can still complete this little exercise!  Come on, it will be FUN!!  Log on to MSR. Go to the My Account Tab, then go to “Edit My Information”which is up by your name. From here you can edit any information on your profile which includes your SCCA member number if you did not have one before and now you do or you had one but never entered it, etc. You can also go to the “Garage”and edit your vehicle information. In the “Garage”is where you will add a new car if you need to and/or change the tires that you are running on. This will be important to check before Nationals to make sure you have the correct tire listed. Click “edit”beside the vehicle you are registered in for Nationals and make sure that you have a tire selected (a side note- there are no MG tires listed in MSR so you can put a note on your registration letting me know you are running on MG’s and I will make sure your registration is updated.) And that is it!  See, simple!  Thank you for your help- you just saved yourself some time at Registration!

I am excited to be your 2012 Chief of Registration and Chief of Workers!  That being said, I am hoping to give Registration a little more of a “National Tour”feel. Most, if not all of you have attended a National Tour in the last few years so you know what it is like to have your SCCA card and license in hand when you step up to the window of the infamous SCCA timing trailer. You also know that you receive your work assignment at the same time you check in with one person sitting behind one computer. Well, welcome to 2012 Solo Nationals Registration. This year you won’t have to move from one person to another, you will be able to handle all of the necessities with one person, in one line. I hope that makes you as excited as it makes me!  Now, I need to let you know how this will work. You will need to be aware that there will be 4, (YES 4!) computers set up Saturday through Monday for Registration and each line will be clearly marked. One line will be for TUESDAY EAST, one for TUESDAY WEST, one for THUSDAY/FRIDAY and one for CHANGES/VERIFICATIONS.

Let’s address the obvious first. Tuesday EAST/ Tuesday WEST computers; you will know by the time you register which course you run first- or you will be able to figure it out because there will be a sign outside of Registration. You will need to make sure that you get in the correct line because if you don’t, you won’t be able to register at that computer and you will have to get back in the correct line and wait again. Not because we are trying to be a pain, but because your registration will only be in one place and that is on the computer with the registrations for the course you run first.

Next, if you run Thursday/Friday and you want to register Saturday through Monday, your registrations will all be on one computer until Tuesday morning and then they too will be split to Thursday EAST and Thursday WEST. Again, once the computers are split, it is important that you go to the correct “course computer”so that your registration process goes quickly.

Finally, there will be a computer that is set up for CHANGES/VERIFICATIONS. This computer station will be one of the biggest changes. This is for ANY changes that need to be made on site. The goal is to be able to get changes made while you wait — including work assignments (if a change is necessary). I would encourage you to make any changes that you know of ahead of time to save yourself time at Registration. If you have changes, please feel free to email them to Deena Rowland ([email protected]) at the National office and see will make sure they get passed along. I will contact you to let you know that the change has been made. I would also encourage everyone to make sure that you have your SCCA card in hand when you come to Register- that means renew early if you need to (or in some cases…just plain RENEW- I see several expired memberships in the registration file)or print out proof of renewal if you have not gotten your new card yet. If you don’t have your card with you or have a print out of your membership proof, you will need to come to the VALIDATION line to have your membership validated.

Now, WORKER CHECK-IN- this isn’t too much of a change from years past.  I just want to make everyone aware to verify where they need to check in for their work position. We have changed some of the worker check in locations this year- for example,  Safety workers check in with the Chief to Safety at the back of Impound, Timing workers check in inside the Trailer with the Timing Captains, Impound workers check in at Impound with the Chief of Impound, etc. All of this information will be clearly listed in your information book that you receive at registration, please be sure to verify where your worker check-in will be.

I look forward to seeing all of you in a few weeks!

In the past, anyone who has been to Nationals has seen a giant paper map that we write on, edit, erase, change and generally mangle throughout the first few days before competition as people are arriving on site and scramble for a spot near there friends or in some specific area. For those who were fortunate enough to be in Lincoln early as part of the ProSolo Finale, they would be part of the gold rush to grab the premium spots while the rest get regulated to the back 40. This year, we’re going to moving forward and utilize the power of MotorsportsReg and our own software to give those who have already registered the ability to view the site online and reserve their spots ahead of time. The system, dubbed PaddockNow will be launching On August 13th, the first Monday after the close of early registration.

PaddockNow uses the incredibly detailed site map created by Roger Johnson. We’ve spent the past few months mapping out the site in a web friendly format that will help people new to the site find their way around and those veterans a quick and easy way to reserve your paddock spot. Some special spots (like the practice course) will have some additional information like a YouTube video showing what the area looks like or a picture of that area of the paddock. By simply clicking on various spots, you can see whether a spot is already taken and who has taken it. By using your your registration email address (the one you use for MSR) and your SCCA ID (the exact number – underscores and all if you have one), you can reserve a spot. Note: the validation between the paddock server and MSR’s servers can be a little slow so be patient with the initial validation and reservation (it shouldn’t take more than a minute). If you and your co-driver chose different paddock areas and need to consolidate due to a large trailer, you have the ability to go back in with your registration email address and SCCA ID and release the spot for someone else to reserve. This all should allow all members (and regions – for those regions who will be utilizing tents) who will be coming to Lincoln for Nationals a chance to get the spots they want for the week.

There are a few caveats to the system which should be noted. Only Internet Explorer 9 and up are supported along with the newest version of Firefox 14 (previous versions may work, but have not been extensively tested) and Chrome. If you have specific questions regarding the paddock system, cannot register or require special consideration (handicapped drivers – Chiefs who wish to paddock in the front row near the courses) – you’ll need to contact the Paddock Chief – Randall Prince at [email protected] – to reserve your spots or make changes. You can also report any bugs to the same email address.
