Hoosier Super Tour’s First Barber Visit Marks Final Stop Before the Runoffs

The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour (HST) has visited numerous bucket-list tracks during its 10-year existence, but for the final round of 2026, the tour makes its first trip to Barber Motorsports Park on Aug. 29-30, 2026, for a weekend of racing, co-hosted by SCCA’s Tennessee Valley Region and Alabama Region.

Part of the Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing program, this inaugural HST round at the “Augusta National of Motorsports” has all the makings of a memorable one. The layout boasts a 45-foot-wide track surface with an 80-foot elevation change. The 880-acre facility in Leeds, AL, just east of Birmingham, is well known for its landscaping, greenery, art installations, and world-renowned museum. Plus, there are plenty of lodging options within a 15-minute drive from the track (with the bonus of a legendary Buc-ee’s travel center across from the entrance).

Driver and volunteer registration is now open for this first-ever HST visit to Barber. Get signed up today, get excited, and don’t forget to support SCCA partners like Tire Rack, Hagerty insurance, Hawk brakes, and Öhlins suspension when preparing for your weekend in Alabama. As for Sunoco race fuel, you can easily find that at the track.

Plans for the Weekend

This two-day HST event will traverse the 17-turn, 2.38-mile course first opened in 2003 by George Barber. Designed by Alan Wilson, it runs in a clockwise direction and has previously played host to Grand-Am, World Challenge, and the IndyCar Series, to name a few. It also serves as home to a North American Porsche Driving School.

SCCA competitors will get on track starting 8 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, Aug. 29, with 20-minute qualifying sessions for each of the seven run groups. That will be followed by 35-minute or 21-lap contests for the first three run groups, then 25-minute or 16-lap races for the final four run groups.

When Sunday, Aug. 30, comes around, each run group will have another 15-minute qualifying session on track. Then the first three run groups have 25-minute or 16-lap contests, followed by 35-minute or 21-lap races for the final four run groups to discover who earns victory podium spots and receives adulation, trophies, and commemorative bottles of Mazza Vineyard sparkling wine.

The event schedule makes all of those races and times easy to follow, and it also contains information about which car classes are in each race group.

What to Expect

According to Race Co-Chair Michael Robinson, the host Regions are very excited about holding this final HST event of the season. Months of conversations and planning have been conducted, and organizers are more than ready to get the action underway.

“Alabama Region and Tennessee Valley Region have both been racing at Barber for many years and know how to put on great weekends,” Robinson said. “We know the Hoosier Super Tour comes with a certain set of unique attributes and expectations, so this year’s event will certainly be a bit of an education for sure.”

The Porsche Track Experience program controls Barber all Friday, which means competitors will not gain paddock access until Porsche’s program wraps up around 5:30 p.m. local time. However, there will be a trailer staging area near the track’s Credential Building, allowing participants to relax and get registered before entering the paddock. That staging lot is also near the famed Barber Museum, which is an air-conditioned must-see for any fan of race cars or motorcycles.

“Because Porsche controls the facility all Friday, a test day was impossible this year for HST drivers. However, we know that needs to be addressed in the future if at all possible,” Robinson added. “Nonetheless, this year’s event will be special once SCCA gains control of the venue. We’ve got a great BBQ party planned for Saturday evening. Plus, the second floor of the track’s Race Control building, positioned next to pit lane, will be accessible all weekend as an air-conditioned cooling center. That also happens to be a great spot to spectate on-track activities.”

Ones to Watch

The Barber weekend is a last chance for competitors to post “regular season” results toward the Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Points Championship prior to the 2026 Mission Foods SCCA National Championship Runoffs® at Road America later this fall. For those chasing a coveted SCCA Road Racing Super Sweep award, results at Barber are important. That likely explains why some very accomplished racers have plans to be at this upcoming event.

For example, current Formula Continental® (FC) Nationwide Points leader and reigning FC Runoffs winner Brandon Dixon will likely be spotted at Barber. Also keep an eye out for Nathan Down, the ruling Formula F National Champion making his first HST appearance of the year.

“This will actually be my first time racing at Barber and I’m looking forward to the whole weekend,” Down said. “The whole reason for coming out is not for points, not for prizes. It’s just purely to experience a different track and have some fun.”

In other open-wheel action, reigning Formula Atlantic® Nationwide Points Champion Larry Howard will be at Barber as part of a 12-entrant field that also includes Tony Ave, who is the current GT-1 Runoffs Champion. While not currently entered in the GT-1 field for Barber, it does appear Ave will also be running in GT-2 and E Production during the weekend.

Mike Taylor, the Super Touring® Lite (STL) National Champion, is headed to Barber where he’ll have to battle Nick Leverone, STL’s reigning Nationwide Points Champion, in an 11-car field. Leverone will also be driving in Spec Miata (SM) during an action-packed third run group featuring Mazdas from the SM and Spec MX-5 classes.

Also likely to be a thriller at Barber is B-Spec in the seventh run group. That field will include reigning B-Spec National Champion Eric Yagel, who took some time off midseason for race car repairs, but he got rolling again during the Watkins Glen HST gathering a couple months ago and claimed two third-place finishes.

“I’ve never raced at Barber and I’ve always wanted to,” Yagel said about his upcoming visit to Alabama. “It doesn’t seem like an overly challenging track to be quick at, but extracting every last tenth is going to be kind of tricky. I think it’s really going to lend its hand to drivers who have been there before.”

How to Watch

HST’s weekend at Barber is only open to SCCA members. Show your membership card and you’re in free and clear at no cost to enjoy on-track action from several naturally wooded or grass-covered embankments, so get on out to the circuit and make the most of your SCCA membership. Please note that per Alabama law, individuals under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with a signed minor waiver form on file with SCCA prior to the event.

If you can’t be in America’s 22nd state that weekend, then be sure to follow the action online thanks to HST’s free broadcast produced by DriversEye Live. That coverage begins with qualifying on Saturday and can be found at SCCA’s YouTube page.

Color commentary during broadcasts will be provided by Gregg Ginsberg and pro racer Tom O'Gorman (who will be pulling double duty during the weekend as he steps behind the wheel of a Spec MX-5 race car).
