A significant change of scenery awaits Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour (HST) drivers as the series leaves behind Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California for the hilly, lush landscape of Braselton, GA, and Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. That is where the second of nine events on this year’s schedule takes place March 6-8, 2026, during a gathering hosted by SCCA’s Atlanta Region.
Recently announced as home of the 2027-’28 National Championship Runoffs® that caps Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing seasons, competitors from across the country will again tackle Road Atlanta’s 2.54-mile, 12-turn, natural-terrain course with a long SCCA history. Driver and Volunteer registration is already open for this extravaganza, so click the link below to get signed up now.

Once registered, be sure to check those Hawk Brakes and Hagerty insurance policies before going like the devil down to Georgia. Filling jugs with Sunoco race fuel is a good idea, too, if you’re lookin’ for commemorative bottles of Mazza Vineyards sparkling wine to spray during victory podium celebrations.
Georgia’s Maximized Schedule
This three-day event at Road Atlanta will have eight run groups. But because the venue must abide by a mandatory “Quiet Time” rule Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, organizers have built a different schedule to maximize time on course for this year’s HST visit.
Things get rolling at 8 a.m., Eastern Time, on Friday, March 6, with 25-minute qualifying sessions for each run group. After lunch, run groups one through five will have another 25-minute qualifying session on track to close out the day. On-track activity Saturday, March 7, will then open at 8 a.m., local time, with 25-minute qualifying sessions for the remaining run groups.
Here is where things switch up a bit. Starting at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, the first three run groups will each have 35-minute or 19-lap races before the lunch break. The fourth run group will then have its 35-minute or 19-lap race immediately after lunch, followed by 25-minute or 15-lap contests for run groups five, six, seven, and eight.
On Sunday morning, March 8, after everyone has moved clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time, on-track action begins at 8 a.m., with 25-minute or 15-lap races for the first three run groups before Road Atlanta observes mandatory quiet hours until noon. After that, run group four has its 25-minute or 15-lap contest, followed by 35-minute or 19-lap races for run groups five through eight.

Measure Up at HST Road Atlanta
HST’s first event of the year east of the Mississippi includes some heavy hitters. In Formula Continental®, reigning Runoffs Champ Brandon Dixon will be racing around in the No. 7 Hoosier/Citation Engineering F2000 car; and James Candelaria, reigning Touring 1 Runoffs winner in the No. 34 Candelaria Racing Products/Hawk/Hoosier/Summit Racing Chevrolet Corvette, will be one to watch in the last run group. And we can’t forget Mike Taylor, the current Super Touring Lite® National Champion competing in the No. 39 JustTrackIt/E3 Storage/MS3 Pro AMP EFI Acura Integra.
“I feel pretty good at Road Atlanta,” Taylor said, noting it’s his home track. “I’m excited to get going and get started for the next year.”
Formula Atlantic® (FA) National Champion Hans Peter will be at the track, driving the No. 66 Swift 016 in run group seven. His son, Touring 2 National Champion Charlie Peter, is registered to compete as well, but he’ll be running GT-2 in the No. 166 Phenix Porsche 991.2 Cup car. Current GT-2 National Champion Jorge Nazario will be in the mix, too, piloting the No. 165 Taxmania Chevrolet Corvette.
“This will be my first race weekend for the year,” said Nazario, who also plans to be in the Super Touring® Under (STU) field in Georgia. “Road Atlanta is an amazing track. It’s a driver’s track … and this should be fun.”
The GT-2 contest in the final run group will be even more intriguing when you consider Tony Ave will also be in that field. His team has been working on the No. 144 Ave Motorsports Nissan 350Z during the offseason, with the hope of being a serious class contender after some troubles at last year’s Runoffs. Ave will also be driving in GT-1, where he is the reigning National Champion, and plans to be on track for both the FA and STU races, making for several interesting head-to-head matchups.
“It’s going to be a fun weekend,” Ave predicted. “It’s good to see that all the fast guys are looking to show up. I always go to Road Atlanta, if I have the weekend available, whether there’s a big entry list or not. But it’s always a bonus when all the fast guys show up.”
