The Massive Memories of Sports Car Club of America

This year, the Sports Car Club of America® is celebrating its 75th Diamond Anniversary. Over 75 years, the Club has made a great deal of history. And while “history” can be an intangible accumulation of memories, SCCA’s history takes on a physical presence in the form of photos, posters, videos, programs and race results accumulated over time. What do you do with all that material? Well, you hand it over to the professional archivists at the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) in Watkins Glen, New York, to sort it all out.

SportsCar magazine recently took a look at the massive task that lies ahead of IMRRC staff in a story titled Preserving SCCA’s Past.” That article, written by Jeff Jacobs and now found at Racer.com, states that “having this important collection of SCCA history preserved in the right manner in the proper facilities for doing so continues to be a core mission of the SCCA Foundation.”

You can learn more about the archives here. Of course, none of this work is possible without generous donations from SCCA members to the SCCA Foundation which oversees this important project. One of the Foundation’s biggest fundraising events of the year, the annual Off to the Races Sweepstakes, is going on now with prizes including a trip to the United States Grand Prix or a spin at the Skip Barber One-Day GT Racing School. Drawing tickets can be purchased here up to Sept. 3, so buy your raffle chances today! You gotta be in it to win it!
