Strano, Hollis Find Continued Success in Peru

PERU, Ind. (July 6, 2007) €“ Nearly 200 competitors arrived in Peru, Ind., at the Grissom Areoplex for the eighth stop on the 2007 TireRack® SCCA Solo National Tour. Several familiar names, including some defending National Champions and event winners from earlier this season, appeared on the results sheet, many of them at the top of the charts. The Indy Region did a great job of making everyone feel welcome and organizing a safe and fun weekend. The event was also blessed with perfect weather on both days with sunny skies and 80-degree temperatures.

Eric Heller, of Akron, Ohio, took the win in a Super Stock class flooded with Chevrolet Corvettes. In what was also the closest class of the weekend, Heller stopped the clocks in his Kumho/Hawk/Oakley/Verizon Corvette just 0.033-second ahead of Patrick Montelo, from Schaumburg, Ill.

Acura Integras went one, two, three in the 12-car strong D Stock class, where defending Solo National Champion Bartek Borowski, of Elmwood Park, Ill., out-paced his brother Hubert by 0.637-second. Canadian Carl Wener was third in the TRAC Racing Integra.

Street Modified was equally big, with 12 cars. The Showcase Mitsubishi Evo IX R lived up to it€™s name by stealing the show and taking the top two spots with co-drivers Andrew Lieber, of Bay City, Mich., and Jarrod Hoops, of Midland, Mich.

Sam Strano continued his winning ways in the growing F Stock category. Driving the Strano Performance/Capital Quest Ford Shelby Mustang, Strano, of Knoxdale, Pa., backed up his DC ProSolo F Stock win with a 0.288-second victory over the Mustang of Kevin Youngers, from Greeley, Colo.

Also riding a wave of Solo success at the moment is Andy Hollis. With his victory in Street Touring S2 at Peru, the Texas driver and his trusty Soulspeed/ART/GRM Mazda Miata remain undefeated in both National Tour and ProSolo competition this year.

Steve Wynveen avenged his A Stock runner-up finish at Peru last year by beating out a pack of Pontiac Solstices for the win this time around. Making the trip from Germantown, Wis., Wynveen was error-free on both days in his Mercuryracing.com Honda S2000 which propelled him to a 0.788-second victory over Steve Bunce, of Clarkston, Mich.

Gary Godula, of Farmington Hills, Mich., overcame a half-second deficit in C Modified after day one, to win the class by 0.178-second. Driving the Jack Demmer Ford Reynard 88F, Godula was untouchable on Sunday, beating out Donald Elzinga, of Waterford, Mich., in a Reynard FF1600 by 0.178-second.

Cindy Duncan, of Louisville, Ken., won the Street Touring S2 Ladies class in similar fashion. Sharing a Honda CRX with Renee Hines, of Florence, Ky., Duncan trailed her co-driver by nearly half-a-second after day one, but found enough speed on day two for the win.

Michael Potocki, of Kenmore, N.Y. and David Heinrich, of Zeeland, Mich., were both Pace Hot Pursuit award winners in Peru for having the most consistent times of the weekend. Driving a D Stock Mazda Miata, Potocki€™s times on Saturday had a difference of only 0.125-second, while Heinrich€™s Sunday times in a Street Touring Ultra Mitsubishi Evolution were all within 0.113-second of each other. Both drivers are now entered to win a Pace Pursuit® trailer at the end of the season.

They€™ll be no break for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour as it heads north this weekend for a stop at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wis. For full results from Peru, visit the Peru National Tour event page.
