Session Notes
Good morning from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course where the first race of the day - Touring 3 - is already on track and taking their pace lap. Day 2 of the SCCA National Championships presented by Garmin VIRB has nine races today. Delete
Dry but damp with a little bit of morning dew still linger, temperature at a cool 64 degrees. Delete
Charles Hurley starts from the Tire Rack Pole and Tom Wickersham is up for the Super Sweeep! Delete
Green! Delete
Lap 1, order is Derek Kulach, Lansing Stout, Chad Gilsinger, Charles Hurley and Bob Schader. Delete
Lots of big moves at start and Kulach jumped from third to first going into the esses. Delete
Lap 3, Kulach, Stout, Gilsinger and Hurley and Schader, who are in a tight battle for P4. Delete
A win by Nissan, which is currently P1, P2 and P5, would be the 100th would be an SCCA record 100th victory for Datsun/Nissan in the history of the Runoffs. Delete
Lap 9, Kulach has a 1.6 second lead as Stout, Gilsinger and Hurley are nose-to-tail battling for positions two through four. Delete
Lap 11, Gilsinger slips inside of Stout in the Carousel and takes P2 as Kulach has opened up a 1.9 second lead. Delete
10 to go and Gilsinger in P2 has left field behind as he tries to charge down leader Kulach. Delete
Lap 14, Schader makes inside move on Hurley for P4 at end of straight and the two come together. Cars slide through the esses and even appeared to be locked together for a few seconds. Both continue with heavy right side smoke/tire rub on Hurley's BMW. Delete
Lap 15, leader Kulach is maintaining a two-second lead over P2 Gilsinger. Stout is three second back in P3 while Hurley and Schader have managed to continue in P4 and P5, respectively, despite the contact incident. Delete
Lap 20, order up front remains steady with Kulach up front by over three seconds and clear of Gilsinger and Stout. Delete
White flag or Kulach who is on the brink of giving Datsun/Nissan its record-extending 100th Runoffs win. Delete
Derek Kulach wins Touring 3 to give Datsun/Nissan its record-extending 100th career victory, the first manufacturer to break into the triple digits in the win column. Delete
Gilsinger and Stout complete the top four while Hurley does a good job of crossing the line in P4 despite having a rear tire go down on the last lap. Schader finishes fifth. Delete

Just to correct the broadcasters, FB or Formula 1000 was originally a Canadian class called Formula 4. Class started back in the mid 70's using 750 cc motorcycle engines . The class has actually been around for a long time. I drove a Formula 4 Vixen for 10 years, and we did race at a number of U.S. tracks including Mid-Ohio. Delete
What no white flag one to go! Thatsucked Delete
No...winglets did not get installed on race cars then on aircraft.... Delete
Is the AS video available somewhere? Delete
Who wrote the comment in "session notes" that the wheel bumping before the start of the Formula Continental from Saurino and LaRue was "a little gamesmanship"? That attitude and that action is sickening! It is, at best, poor sportsmanship! I would have black flagged both. Delete
Smart move Rick, trust me, I've heard Randy sing. Delete
Is Steven Hussey ok? Delete
anyone? Delete
As soon as one is available, please give us an update on Steve's condition- Delete
Only 14 FFs this year... down from 24 last year runoffs.. yeesh. Delete
Old guys rule, Go Bob! Show Colin how to do it! Delete
Would love to know why the second one was waived off... should have already been able to get the debris if that was it. Delete
Debris was left for the start.. so not that. odd. Delete
The second no start was called by Race Control, it was not a wave off by the Starter. My GUESS is that they did not have all the damaged cars off the track. Delete
Pretty sure there was just the one damaged car from the first wave off and he's still in the same spot he pulled off to, near the tires. Delete
I think you should say something about Mark Hoover T1 how would have been there, but his WIFE die. Delete
sorry to hear that Delete
Just to clear up any misconceptions. The Starter decided BOTH waveoffs without input from anyone else. There were specific reasons for both and he could have waved them off a third time had he wished. Delete
