SCCA Launches Groundbreaking Nationwide Professional Drift Series

The Sports Car Club of America™ is thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking seven race series set to tour the United States, where professional racers and amateurs will compete side-by-side for substantial cash prizes.

The Nationwide SCCA® Pro Drift Attack Challenge Series (NSPDACS) will build off the success of several other forms of SCCA motorsports, including the Club’s Solo® and Time Attack Challenge series, allowing the Club to host NSPDACS events at not only existing racetracks, but also autocross sites as well as at locations that have been underutilized by the SCCA.

“After years of planning, it’s thrilling to finally see this project come to fruition,” said SCCA’s Heyward Wagner, whose official title has now become SCCA Vice President of Rally/Solo, Experiential Programs, and the Nationwide SCCA Pro Drift Attack Challenge Series. “If there’s one thing everyone knows I’ve repeatedly said that SCCA should be synonymous with, it’s drifting, so I’m pretty jazzed that I was told that I would be leading this endeavor.”

Unlike other drift series which utilize a form of subjective judging for its drift competitions, the NSPDACS will be solely time based, with the quickest driver from point A to point B being the victor. Where the competition gets even more interesting is that a minimum drift angle must be maintained throughout at least half of the course, with post-run data analysis determining whether a driver did or did not meet the 50% Drift Angle Rule.

“This groundbreaking race series will be like no other, offering a season-long points championship that will prove lucrative for those who can consistently put their car on the top step of the podium,” Wagner insisted. “We will soft-launch NSPDACS this summer with only seven stops, expanding to a baker’s dozen in 2027.”

The NSPDACS rulebook, meticulously assembled by the NSPDACS Competition Board (NSPDACSCB), with input from the 18 member NSPDACS Competition Advisory Committee (NSPDACSCAC), is in the final steps of development and will offer detailed spec lines containing minimum weights, valve cut requirements, and carb choke sizes. The rulebook will also contain information about the 240 UTQG spec tire all drivers will be required to utilize.

Spanning the country in a way never seen before, drivers will experience some familiar facilities, but also circuits that many have only dreamed about competing at.

“Everywhere I go, Rattlesnake Raceway in Midland, TX – the launching pad for Chaparral Cars – has been a place people have told me they’ve always wanted to go, and now SCCA members can be a part of history as the racing circuit reopens exclusively for the SCCA,” said a pulchritudinous Wagner. “From there, NSPDACS will hit numerous other facilities in a rapid-fire motion that will be a challenge, but totally doable. A mid-season break has been worked in, allowing teams to prep for the triple-points final event.”

Note that due to a timing conflict, SCCA has decided to preempt the ProSolo Finale for the fifth round of the NSPDACS.
