The upcoming (and penultimate round of the) Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour® (HST) event of 2025 takes place June 6-8 at Road America in Wisconsin. That meetup will also be the 70th consecutive running of the WeatherTech Chicago Region® June Sprints®.
While the June Sprints is always special, of particular note this year is the return of a single-race format, a scenario not unfamiliar to the event in its first 60 years of existence. The amount of time participants have on course over three days hasn’t changed from the previous few years, which is important for drivers honing vehicles and skills in advance of SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs® taking place again this fall at Road America.
In addition, the small-bore formula group of Formula F (FF), Formula 600 (F6), and Formula Vee® (FV) cars will be included in the 10-run group event. Saturday and Sunday’s races will count twice towards Runoffs qualification.
Also special is what Road America has done to further enhance its facility over the past couple months. For starters, new track-out curbing was widened at the Kink, as well as modifications to mitigate ruts and dust at the outside and exit of that challenging, highspeed corner. Barrier straightening was also undertaken on driver’s left between Turns 4-5 and Turns 13-14 to improve safety, while maintaining the original configuration.
The North Paddock transitioned to an all-paved surface while maintaining roughly the same paddock potential as before. That enhancement isn’t just about smooth pavement, as the project included a major overhaul of the water management system, complete with storm sewers and a retention plan designed to keep the area functional in all weather conditions. The previous carport is now a proper garage structure, offering better protection from the elements and improved functionality. Competitors will also appreciate an alternate entry to false grid that will reduce race car traffic on the Midway.
This year’s June Sprints HST will be an exciting one indeed. Drivers and Volunteers should click the button below to learn more and get registered for this legendary Summit Racing Equipment SCCA Road Racing event.
Talent Takes on Unique Schedule
Current National Champions from at least 10 car classes along with reigning HST Nationwide Points Champions from nine classes have plans to compete at the June Sprints, making this a must-attend opportunity for drivers to see how they stack up against some of SCCA’s best before the Runoffs this fall.
There are going to be some good-sized fields as well. Spec Racer® Ford Gen3 looks to be the largest with around 55 entrants, which will make that fifth run group fun to watch as it curls around Road America’s 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit. The same can be said for Spec Miata with a likely field of more than 30 cars.
Formula Continental® seems set to make a strong showing in the seventh run group with 17 entrants who will be running alongside a dozen drivers from Formula Atlantic®. There also looks to be 12 drivers in both the F Production and Super Touring® Lite classes.
A baker’s dozen Prototype cars will be part of the second run group, and about the same number of competitors will be found in the ninth run group consisting of Spec MX-5 Mazdas. Then there’s the tenth and final run group that will wrap up the June Sprints with 13 FVs, 15 F6s, and 17 FFs.
The fun is officially scheduled to begin Friday morning at 8 a.m. Central Time with 25-minute practice sessions for the run groups. After lunch, the first eight run groups will then close out the day with 25-minute qualifying sessions each.
Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. local time, the last two run groups will get their opening 25-minute qualifying sessions, followed by a second round of 25-minute qualifying for the first five run groups before a lunch break. After that, run groups six through eight will have a second round of 25-minute qualifying before the day ends with 13-lap or 45-minute races for the first three run groups.
Sunday starts again at 8 a.m. Central Time with a second round of 25-minute qualifying for the last two run groups. Then it’s all about racing as the day closes out with 13-lap or 45-minute races for six of the seven remaining run groups to discover who claims trophies and commemorative bottle of Mazza Vineyards sparkling wine. The exception, as always, is for big-bore cars in group eight. They traditionally run a 15-lap event.
This perhaps sounds a bit confusing in written form, but it’s straightforward on the schedule. Click the link below to eyeball the schedule, and keep in mind that all times shown are approximate. Sessions may start earlier or later than shown, so be sure to pay attention to on-track activities and PA announcements.
