Targa Southland, the OG of SCCA Targa, is About to Hit the Road, And You’re Invited

Guess who’s back, back again. Targa’s back, tell a friend.

Why tell a friend? Because SCCA® Targa events are team sports, so you’ll need a friend if you want to participate. Then – as we discovered during Targa Texasland earlier this year – you’ll make even more friends once the event begins.

You’ll need to tell a friend FAST, though, because Targa Southland is about to hit the road, taking place June 11-14, 2025, hitting four racetracks and seeing drivers enjoy Time Attack, TrackSprint, and autocross action. That’s four racetracks and roughly 750 miles of transit in just four days, with the option to stick around for a fifth and continue the competition in the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge.

It’s a lot, but trust us, you’ll love every minute of it.

The Schedule

The TL;DR is this:

  • June 11: Atlanta Motorsports Park, Dawsonville, GA
  • June 12: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, Braselton, GA
  • June 13: North Carolina Center for Automotive Research, Garysburg, NC
  • June 14-15: Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC

These are the details:

It all kicks off at Atlanta Motorsports Park in Dawsonville, GA, on June 11 with a TrackSprint competition plus a pair of three-lap Time Attack-style shootouts. Don’t know this racing circuit? Don’t worry! Pace laps and practice sessions at all the tracks will get you up to speed, so to speak.

Less than 40 miles down the road is Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in Braselton, where a gathering is planned for the evening of June 11. On June 12, the competition launches with an autocross, plus the now-familiar pair of three-lap competition shootouts (paired with those aforementioned pace laps and practice sessions).

The big transit comes that afternoon as teams head roughly 450 miles northeast to North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) in Garysburg, NC. When the teams meet up at NCCAR on June 13, they’ll be facing another TrackSprint and another two sets of three-lap shootouts.

Some 250 miles from NCCAR sits Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC – and this is where things get serious. On June 14, Targa Southland joins the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge at CMP. Saturday’s lapping counts toward Targa Southland’s final score, but teams also get one entry into the Time Attack Challenge, meaning the track-going fun extends through Sunday afternoon with even more Time Attack competition.

While Targa Southland participants get one entry into the Time Attack Challenge at CMP, the team’s second driver is encouraged to enter the Time Attack Challenge separately, keeping the fun level at a 10.

The Twist

While Targa’s scoring is based on lap time performance, that’s not the complete story. Social media engagement and transit challenges enter the equation and can make for some interesting swings in the results. Beyond that, the organizer reserves the right to reward bonus points for general awesomeness.

You Know You Want To

There are some other details you need to know, like the fact that the required co-driver must register separately as a co-driver for the Targa event, although it is notable that the co-driver’s entry is free for Targa. Also, if the co-driver wants to compete in the Time Attack Challenge portion of the weekend, whether in the same car or a different one, they’ll need to register for that competition separately.

The entry fee for all this fun is $1,250. If that sounds steep, consider what you get! Each team gets two practice and two cumulative lap sessions at the first three tracks, and one practice session and three timed sessions per registered driver on Saturday during the Time Attack Challenge. Each team also gets six autocross runs and multiple TrackSprints.

The team also gets one free entry into the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge at Carolina Motorsports Park, which itself is a $500 value!

Targa Southland is coming up June 11-15, so time is running out. Sign up now for the event of a lifetime!
