’23 Peru ProSolo Fast Notes

Round 10 of 12 in the 2023 Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo Series took place Aug. 4-6 at Grissom Aeroplex in Peru, IN, leaving just one more round of points remaining to be claimed during the Aug. 11-13 Brunswick ProSolo, before drivers head to the ProSolo Finale at Lincoln Airpark, taking place the first weekend in September.

Saginaw Valley Region hosted the Peru ProSolo event on the sturdy World War II-era concrete runways, which Dave Feigner utilized for the courses. Pizza and drinks were on the menu for the Friday welcome party as nearly 170 competitors rolled into the site.

The ProSolo Challenges were dry at the end of the weekend, despite the occasional shower throughout the class runs. Those class runs included Nathan Tardif and Gabe Argenta making their ProSolo debuts thanks to the Howard Duncan Greenlight Fund. Participants of the Fund receive free entry to their maiden ProSolo event, courtesy of the SCCA Foundation. Tardif drove his Subaru Impreza WRX in Street 4, while Argenta’s STS Miata slotted into the Bump Class during the event.

Donations made to the SCCA Foundation can be earmarked for the Greenlight Fund here.

Best In Class

David Colletti brought his D Street Prepared Mazda RX-8 to the Street 1 class and walked away with his first career ProSolo class win. When runs were complete, Colletti was 0.179sec ahead of Eric Anderson’s SSM Mazda Miata.

Larry MacLeod topped the weekend overall based on indexed times, besting the Race Tire Index 1 in his Kart Modified Tonykart Shifter. He finished 0.797sec ahead of a familiar foe, son Jackson, who served as a co-driver during the event.

Jay Bullington earned the title of “quickest car” in the weekend, landing just behind MacLeod on the Index list and at the top of Street 4. Bullington’s Audi S4 was 0.484sec in front of Francois Langelier’s Toyota Corolla GR at the end of the runs.

It was tight in the straight-up E Street battle. Nicholas Zelisko won the battle of Miatas up front, topping Bartek Borowski by 0.032sec in the class.

Challenge Runs

Bonus Challenge: Argenta put the Greenlight Fund to good use, becoming the first person to be presented with the fund and win the Bonus Challenge in the same event. Argenta won three consecutive head-to-head battles after drawing in, topping Ben Weaver in the finals to earn the win.

Ladies Challenge: Three wins in a row in a F Modified machine handed the Ladies Challenge trophy to Andie Albin. Albin’s second Ladies Challenge win of the season came when she topped Carla Flores’s SSC Scion FR-S in the finale.

Super Challenge: “Mr. Peru” Lance Keeley knows his way around the aeroplex surface, taking his second career Super Challenge victory – both in Peru. Keeley topped Colletti in the finals after Colletti red lighted his final run to clean up the bracket.

One To Go

There’s only one more event on the calendar before the Tire Rack ProSolo Championship Finale in Lincoln, and that’s in Brunswick, ME, at the Brunswick Executive Airport on Aug. 11-13. There’s a competitive cast of characters already on the Brunswick entry list, but there’s still room for you.
