At A Glance: '20 Buttonwillow Hoosier Super Tour

Storylines/Things to Watch:

Early Buttonwillow Visit -- In previous years, the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour visit to Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California took place later on in the schedule. But in 2020, the Buttonwillow Hoosier Super Tour takes place in February, and is the third stop in a 10-event calendar. Why the change? Well, many of the volunteers who make the Hoosier Super Tour happen at Buttonwillow are also intricately involved in pulling off April’s Grand Prix of Long Beach. So, Hoosier Super Tour moved up its annual visit to Buttonwillow so that the Cal Club Region and SCCA volunteers could support both events.

Running Opposite -- Buttonwillow Raceway Park actually has more than 40 different race and test configurations purposely designed to emulate street and road racing courses throughout North America. For the past couple years, Hoosier Super Tour events have been run on good ol’ configuration No. 25A clockwise. This year, however, there’s been a switch to the 2.95-mile, No. 25 counterclockwise layout. How will the change impact competition? Find out by tuning in online to www.scca.com/live for live Timing & Scoring, video and Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire.

2020 GT-3 Challenge Begins -- Opening round of the 2020 GT-3 Challenge presented by MPI takes place this weekend as part of the Hoosier Super Tour at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. This is a series boosting participation in the GT-3 class and supported by Mazda, Max Papis Innovations, Penske Racing Shocks, AiM Sports and Hoosier Racing Tire, with new partners Goodyear Tire, Carbotech Performance Brakes and Bell Racing Helmets jumping aboard this year. Buttonwillow is the first of five scheduled GT-3 Challenge rounds -- the others taking place at Hoosier Super Tour events at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and Watkins Glen International, as well as Road America in July, and finally SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs® in October.

What Else to Watch -- The Buttonwillow Hoosier Super Tour looks to have right around 160 entries for the weekend. Along with the GT-3 class, Super Touring® Lite and E Production each have 10 entrants, so things should be interesting in those races. And as always, don’t miss the Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford Gen3 races with fields of more than 20 cars each. Weekend entry is FREE for spectators, therefore there’s no excuse not to come on out and enjoy great racing at Buttonwillow Raceway Park.
