Located just 140 minutes from Seattle Tacoma International Airport and about the same from Portland International Airport, the small but lively and beautifully situated town of Packwood, will once again play host to the Tire Rack SCCA Packwood Championship Tour and the TireRack Packwood ProSolo a week later. You may as well take off the week between the Championship Tour and the Tire Rack SCCA ProSolo because this region is the most beautiful in the nation and offers fantastic hiking, and camping opportunities. Or you can spend a week exploring a fraction of what the Pacific Northwest has to offer. If city life is your jam, check out nearby Portland and Seattle. Or head north and visit Leavenworth, if you’d like to see our own little slice of Germany. Or head west and see the Olympic National Park. To the east, you can see the wine country of the Tri Cities and Walla Walla, as well as the Columbia Valley in between.

While a small town, Packwood offers great food. Hit up Cliff Droppers for a northwest style burger and a milkshake, you’ll have earned it. Share a pizza or burger with your racing family at Cruisers Pizza or stop by the Mountain Goat for a coffee and one or three of their homemade muffins. I'd also recommend karaoke and deep-fried pickles at the Blue Spruce Saloon on Saturday night. Don’t count out the Blue Spruce or Cruisers for breakfast either.

Hampton Mills provides the event site, a former lumber mill with huge open-air buildings that you can use as your paddock area, or to take a break from the summer sun or a passing rain shower. (Not that it's going to rain. My long-term forecast shows perfect weather for both weekends*) A vast expanse of asphalt that used to be full of lumber now creates the perfect surface for fantastic flowing courses and on and off-camber turns. All with the backdrop of the gorgeous mountains that surround the event site.

Camping is permitted on-site, but note that there are no hookups. The nearby Packwood RV Park has available tent and RV campsites with power and water, as well as shower facilities. Make sure call them to make a reservation as soon as possible.

If you’d prefer a room, you can check out TripAdvisor.com for reviews of the different hotels and motels in the area, or head over to the lodging section on DestinationPackwood.com to learn about cabin rentals, but again, hurry because the places to stay in the area are filling up fast.

  1. No camping on site before 10:00 am on Thursday before the National Tour
  2. For those who want to camp or store your car or trailer on site between the Tour and the Pro, the donation will be $20 for the week. We will need names of those who wish to use this so we can notify Hampton Mills. Dumping of waste or garbage on site is prohibited. This includes use of sanitation facilities supplied for the events.
  3. The sound limit at Packwood is 96db.
