CAM Focus Tonight on Velocity’s “AmeriCarna”

AmeriCarna is a car culture show hosted by Ray Evernham with guidance from his friend and mentor, Rick Hendrick. They draw from their vast experience as “car guys” to take viewers back in time and introduce them to a period of history when the automobile heavily influenced American culture. They share behind-the-scenes stories of lost racecars, barn finds, speed secrets, Hollywood films, historical racetracks and other unique places.

On tonight’s episode, airing at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on the Velocity network, Evernham and Dale Earnhardt Jr. build an El Laguna to take on SCCA CAM Challenge racer Kyle Tucker, who is also owner of Detroit Speed.  Tune in to see who wins and witness a special appearance by another SCCA CAM Challenge competitor.

The SCCA® CAM Challenge series features ground-pounding American muscle cars.  Events take place over the course of a weekend, with the first day set aside for class competition and an evening awards dinner. Winners in each class are determined by adding the best time of three morning runs added to the best time from three afternoon runs.

On Sunday, the event sets its sights on determining an overall event winner. This is done through a qualifying round of three runs, then a series of elimination challenge rounds for the top 16 drivers in each class.  Qualifying drivers run straight up until a final three (one from each class) are determined, and then an equalization index is used to score the overall winner of the event.

Three more CAM Challenge events are scheduled this year.  Next up is the Mineral Wells CAM Challenge June 16-18 in Mineral Wells, Texas; followed by the August 11-13 Peru CAM Challenge in Bunker Hill, Indiana, and the CAM Challenge Invitational August 31 through September 3 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
