Twenty-one.

Last year over 150 competitors came to the best autocross site in Texas over 4th of July weekend despite a high temperature of 95°F on Saturday and Sunday. The average temperature for this year’s scheduled weekend of March 25-26 is 74°F, a twenty-one degree difference. Twenty-one degrees! For those of you who avoided this event last year because of the heat, you have no excuse this year. And for those of you who must tuck your car away for the winter due to weather, come to Texas where we autocross year-round.

With the loss of Wilmington Airpark as an autocross location, the Riverside Annex can easily be considered the second-best autocross site in the country.   The former WWII Army air base boasts large intersecting runways and concrete that rivals Lincoln in grip. Courses are typically fast and long. Last year first place in STR had times in the 69s and 78s for Saturday and Sunday respectively. Unless you live near Lincoln, your home site is not as good as the Riverside Annex, and you need to add College Station to your list of events for this year.

Don’t feel like driving/towing? Maybe “arrive and drive” is more your style. Flights connect to College Station though Houston and Dallas/Ft. Worth. And the Texas SCCA regions (Alamo, Lone Star, Texas & Houston) are full of friendly folks open to negotiating a co-drive.

There is no camping on site (the site gets locked up at night). There are some RV parks nearby, and Lake Bryan has tent campsites.   Hotels are about a 15min drive from the site and numerous.

College Station is home to Texas A&M University and school is in session while our event takes place. The town should be alive. Restaurants and bars abound, or just figure out which hotel pool will be full of SPOKES members and head there.

Friday evening the hosts will have snacks and drinks on site. The traditional College Station Champ Tour BBQ dinner will take place on Saturday at the VFW Hall.

Make the trip to College Station and you’ll be coming back year after year.
