Solo Nationals from a First Timer's Perspective

A National Championship event, even at the amateur level, is a daunting undertaking for the first time. The regulars of the Tire Rack Solo Nationals will tell you that it’s worth it. The event is huge. That can be very intimidating, but once you get your bearings you realize that SCCA unloads a small town onto a large pad of concrete at the Lincoln AirPark. That town is full of friends and family. During the day, they’re busy working and competing. At night, well, some are busy repairing their cars for another day, but most are socializing and enjoying the company of friends they may only get to see for this one week of the year.

Pete Lindberg shared his story of his first Solo Nationals with tracktuned. He also shares his tips and tricks to enjoying the week. Our favorite: “Bringing a little temporary rain poncho from the Disney World gift shop isn’t going to cut it. It WILL rain during your trip, so come prepared for it. If you’re bringing gear like you’re going to go catch king crab off the coast of Alaska you’re on the right path. Bring a good solid rain jacket and rain paints and good waterproof shoes or boots.”
