Some Sail, Others Slog to Win at Tire Rack Lincoln Champ Tour

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 2, 2016) -- Last Monday, most of the country had the day off from work. And for some of the Tire Rack Lincoln Spring Nationals Championship Tour competitors, it was no different because they made easy work of their classes.

The Saturday leader of C Street Prepared, Neal Tovsen, extended his lead to 1.418 seconds on Monday to add a Champ Tour Class win to his ProSolo win this weekend. Ryan Johnson and his Super Street Prepared Lotus Elise stretched the lead to .916 seconds on Monday while maintaining top time in Class after every set of runs. Erik Strelnieks must have taken the day off because after building a comfortable 1.681-second lead over Mike Brausen in F Prepared on Sunday, he was only able to tack on another .456 Monday.

Jeff Kiesel in E Modified claimed the victory over Jason Minehart by 3.066 seconds. And Zak Kiesel learned well from his father, Jeff, by leading wire to wire on Monday to capture the F Modified Class win.  Street Touring Xtreme belonged to Craig Wilcox, who followed his ProSolo victory with a .950-second win at the Champ Tour.  Lane Borg left the rest of Street Touring Ultra in the dust Monday, claiming the Class with a 1.713-second lead.

Charles Kim won his Bump Class during the ProSolo, and then led after every set of runs in the Champ Tour to take the win in Super Street. Sam Strano battled with Jeff Cashmore for the A Street lead on Sunday, and then controlled the lead Monday for a .577-second win over Cashmore.  David Feighner had a similar route in F Street where he barely edged out Brian Meyer Sunday, but led wire to wire on Monday while Meyer slipped to third behind Justin Eckles.

Monday was not a walk in the park for some of the other Class leaders from the opening day of competition.  Street Touring Roadster held the distinction of having the largest class and the smallest gap between first and second on the opening day. Michael Yanase led James Yom by just .002 going into Monday.  But after first runs, neither driver was in the lead. Instead it was Ron Bauer at the front with Yom second.  During second runs, Yanase was unable to improve position.  However, Yom ran a 54.812-second lap, which was slower than Bauer’s class-leading time Monday of 54.784 but not enough for Yom to capture his second Class win of the weekend.

The C Prepared leader overnight was Chris Cargill by .302 seconds. He most likely didn’t sleep very well, however, knowing the off hours gave Mark Madarash more time to work on his car and overcome the understeer experienced the day before.  Madarash took the lead after first runs on Monday and held on to win by .167-second over Cargill.
