Nearly 1200 Solo Drivers Set To Descend On Lincoln

Lincoln, Neb. (August 29, 2011) - More than 1,150 drivers are entered in the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships, held Tuesday, August 30 €“ Friday, September 2 at the Lincoln (Neb.) Airpark. The event will crown National Champions in 72 different classes. The 39th running of the world€™s largest motorsports event will take place over four days in two different sessions, with each class placed in either a Tuesday and Wednesday run group or a Thursday and Friday grouping. Among the success stories this year is the new-for-2011 Street Touring Roadster class. Originally a provisional class, unprecedented success of the class persuaded the Solo Events Board to revise the rulebook and allow the 66 competitors entered for Lincoln to run for a National Championship. Individual glory is also up for grabs. Thirty-two drivers are eligible for the Solo Triad award, the highest award a Solo competitor can earn. The Triad recognizes those drivers that win championships at three levels of National Solo competition: a Divisional Championship, a States Championship National Tour, and a National Championship, all in the same class. The Stock Category features eight drivers gunning for a Triad Award. Gregory Lloyd, of Union, Ky., won the Great Lakes Divisional and Southern States Championship in Super Stock and will drive the Hebron Animal Hospital Chevrolet Corvette. Crissy Weaver, of Beavercreek, Ohio, will drive the Fattboyz of Dayton/Muffler Pros/RAFT Chevrolet Corvette in her attempt at a the Triad Award in the Super Stock Ladies Class after winning the Great Lakes Divisional and Northern States Championship. Paul Brown, of Los Alamos, N.M., takes his stab at a Triad in his A Stock Plastic PP Racing Chevrolet Corvette with a Rocky Mountain Divisional and Mountain States Championship in his pocket. Paul Kozlak, of Litchfield, Maine, will attempt to take a Triad in B Stock, driving the RedHaus Racing Pontiac Solstice GXP after a Northeast Divisional and Northern States Championship. Chris Fenter€™s attempt comes in C Stock, where the Appleton, Wis. resident will drive a Mazda MX-5 after Rocky Mountain Divisional and Northern States Championship. In D Stock Ladies, Connie Smith won the Rocky Mountain Divisional and Mountain States Championship and will run the Solo National Championship in the 3Zero3ms.com/SPE-ED/KW/Ska/Custom Craft Audi TT. Bartek Borowski, of Elmwood Park, Ill., will run for the honor in E Stock after winning the Central Divisional, Southern States and Northern States Championship events in a Mazda Miata. Brian Peters, of Litchfield Park, Az., will drive the Goodyear/ProParts USA/Evolution Ford Mustang for the Triad award after a Southern Pacific Divisional and Mountain States Championship. Six Street Touring category drivers have a crack at the Triad Award. Thanks to a Great Lakes Divisional and Southern States Championship in Street Touring S, Thomas O€™Gorman, of Mason, Ohio, is looking for a National Championship in a SSC Tint & Graphics/StranoParts.com/Thanks Mike! In the Ladies class, a Great Lakes Divisional, Southern States and Northern States Championship leave Laura Harbour, of Stamping Ground, Ky., in position to earn a Triad with a Toyo Tires/The Dark Side Has Cookies Mazda Miata. Jeff Mabry, the Great Lakes Divisional and Northern States Champion in Street Touring from Findlay, Ohio, will drive a Honda Civic Si after another trophy. Street Touring Ultra has a Triad contender in both the open and ladies class. Geoff Clark, of Monroe, Wash., has captured the Northern Pacific Divisional and Western States Championship in Taco TimeNW/CiroDesign/Thanks Doug&Tasha!! Mitsubishi Evolution, while Seattle€™s Tasha Mikko represents the ladies division with a Northern Pacific Divisional and Western States Championship Fordahl/H&R/MAPerformance Mitsubishi Evo. Geoff Walker, from Murfreesboro, Tenn., could become the first person to win a Triad Award in the new Street Touring R class after a Southeast Divisional and Southern States Championship in his Honda S2000. Five Street Prepared-category drivers are in contention, beginning with a pair of drivers battling in the C Street Prepared. Bill Schenker, of Corona del Mar, Calif., won the Southern Pacific Divisional and Mountain States Championship in his Miata Roadster/ChaseCam/OS Giken/Motul Mazda Miata and will compete with Northern Pacific Divisional and Western States Champion Scott Fraser, from San Jose, Calif. for the title. Two more drivers will square off within the D Street Prepared class. Alex Shchipkov, of Clifton Park, N.Y., won the Northeast Divisional and Northern States Championship in the SoloRacer.com/MonoBalls.com BMW 330Ci. He€™ll meet Phoenix€™s Doug Rowe and his Hoosier/Evolution/Cortez BMW 330, after Rowe captured a Southern Pacific Divisional and Mountain States Championship. Mark Madarash, from Red Oak, Texas, is gunning for a Triad in E Street Prepared after winning a Southwest Divisional and Southern States Championship in a Pontiac Trans-Am. Nine Modified Category drivers remain eligible for a Triad Award, with three coming in the F Modified class. Glen Barnhouse, from Lolo, Mont., won the Northern Pacific Divisional and Western States Championship Dig It Racing/Independent Motors Lucifer F500, while Southland, Texas-resident Greg Piper won the Southwest Divisional and Mountain States Championship in the AllStarFireext.com/protapesigns.com/Janco Texas Body Works KBS Mk 4. Paul Magee, from Canton, Ohio, won the Great Lakes Divisional and Northern States Championship in the Rogues-Racing.com KBS Mk 4. Jeff Kiesel, from Poway, Calif., and Ron Ver Mulm, from Winterset, Iowa, are competing against each other and the rest of the 20-car E Modified class for a National Title. Kiesel won the Southern Pacific Divisional and Western States Championship in the Goodyear Tire/Racing Beat KFR Turbo Sprite, while Ver Mulm paired two States Championships €“ Southern States and Northern States €“ with his Great Lakes Divisional title in an R & S Racing, Inc. Chevrolet Camaro. David White, from Chicopee, Mass., won the Northeast Divisional and Northern States Championship in a G-Fab Racing Nissan 240X in Street Modified. Andy McKee, from San Jose, Calif., won the Southern Pacific Divisional and Western States Championships driving the Goodyear/A.R.E./SiasTuning/7Parts.com Mazda RX-7. In C Modified, Don Elzinga, from Waterford, Mich., won the Great Lakes Divisional and Northern States Championship in a Reynard FF1600. Jeff Cashmore, from New Berlin, Wis., added a Northern States Championship to his Central Divisional title in D Modified behind the wheel of the King Motorsports/Goodyear Sprinto YC-3. The Prepared Category hosts three drivers competing for a Triad Award. X Prepared€™s Fred Zust, of Tempe, Ariz., conquered the first two legs with a Southern Pacific Divisional and Mountain States Championship in a Blackwatch Racing Lotus Elise. Robert Lewis, from Tallahassee, Fla., has matched that effort with a Southeast Divisional and Northern States Championship in C Prepared behind the wheel of a Sledgehammer Racing/Moton Shocks Ford Mustang. Chris Raglin was the Great Lakes Divisional and Northern States Championship winner in E Prepared driving a Cooper/Avon Racing Tire Honda Civic. Shawn Hill, from Raymore, Mo., is driving a Mike Wilson Kart as the only driver eligible for the Triad Award in the Formula 125 class. The Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships begin Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m., with competition continuing through Friday afternoon.
