Runoffs Report for Thursday, Sept. 29 (Drivers/Teams)

Congratulations to our 2022 SCCA Runoffs Tire Rack Pole Winners! As we prepare to go racing on Friday, here is the news you need to know…

The weather

Hopefully, the wind today helped everyone prepare for what is coming our way starting Friday. Current projections have rain starting in the morning and continuing throughout the day, totaling 1-1.5” throughout the day. Winds are predicted to gust up to 40mph, so please secure your awnings accordingly. The forecast seems to have shifted up a bit, and hopefully we’ll get a reprieve later in the weekend. But we need to be prepared for rain.

With the rain expected over the weekend, please use the paved roads as much as possible. No mud-bogging! Let’s keep this place in as good a shape as possible.

Finally, please remember to thank and show appreciation for all of our workers, many of whom will be out in the elements all day long. Let’s show them the love!

Notes from VIR

As we prepare for rain, we’ve spent a lot of time discussing plans with track management. Here are a couple of notes directly from them:

  • Oil downs in the rain. Oil dry doesn’t really work in the rain. It essentially turns to mud. The most effective way to clean oil off a wet track is with Tide and pressure washing. That takes a lot of time. If you think you might be leaking oil, please get off the track ASAP.
  • As the ground gets saturated, the further off course you get, the more difficult it is to retrieve you. Just be aware that tows may take extra time.
  • Related to mud-bogging in the paddock/camping grass. If track management sees it, don’t expect to be able to stay at the event. In 2019, we saw some of this. Again, let’s be good guests at this beautiful facility!

Notes from the Race Director

If you haven’t watched the driver’s meeting video and written driver’s letter, we strongly suggest it, particularly as it relates to restarts and rain racing. Both will certainly apply this weekend.
