A remarkable thing about the Sports Car Club of America^™ is its supporters come from all walks of life. Be they volunteers, drivers, or pit crew, Club members span everything from high school students to college professors, small-business owners to captains of industry, and everything in between. Most certainly within that troupe, too, are current and former members of the U.S. military. Like, for instance, Washington DC Region member Jennifer Roames.

Military members being a part of the SCCA® is nothing new. One example of that fact can be found with Gen. Curtis LeMay, who in 2007 was inducted into the SCCA Hall of Fame. Head of the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command (SAC), Gen. LeMay opened up SAC bases in the early 1950s to SCCA Road Racing events, which came at a crucial time for the Club as it transitioned from street courses to newly built, permanent racetracks.

Keeping with the tradition of the armed forces being involved in Club activities, Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) recently delved into the pastime of Jennifer Roames. A member of SCCA’s Washington D.C. Region who joined the Club in 2019, Roames is a NSWCDD engineer whose competitive spirit doesn't stop when the workday ends. Instead, she spends her free time behind the wheel of an SCCA race car, pursuing her passion for motorsports while balancing a demanding career in support of the Navy’s mission.

From the engineering challenges she tackles at Dahlgren to the lessons learned on the racetrack, Roames shared how determination, discipline, and a drive to continuously improve shaped both her professional and personal journey.
