If the May 2-3, 2026, Tire Rack SCCA® Time Attack Challenge at Eagles Canyon Raceway in Decatur, TX, was a sign of things to come, this fall’s inaugural class of official Time Attack National Champions are going to have to earn their medals.
The Sports Car Club of America™ and the Texas Region Time Trials program welcomed everyone to the site of this fall’s National Championship event, and a whopping 12 new track records were set on the 2.7-mile road course.
For perspective, there were only six classes that didn’t hit a new high-water mark.
The Quickest of the Quick
Max 1 held the overall fast lap of the weekend, although the time was not fast enough to set a new track record in the class. That’s not to take anything away from Stan Whitney in his 2022 Ford Mustang, who threw down a fast lap of 2:00.396 and total time of 4:02.183, besting everyone in the Max 1 field. To put that into perspective, his fastest lap was ahead (albeit narrowly) of Unlimited 1’s Brian Conaway.
Conaway led Unlimited 1 with a 2:00.723 and a total time of 4:02.590 – another blazing time that fell just short of setting a new track record.
But those track records! Here’s everyone who blasted out a new top time during the weekend.
Class winners and new records:
- Club Spec Mustang: Josh Swanberg, Ford Mustang, 2:17.719
- Club Spec Miata: John Hunter, Mazda MX-5, 2:17.175
- Max 2: Daniel Moore, Honda Civic, 2:04.115
- Max 3: Ryan Harness, Ford Mustang, 2:02.935
- Max 4: Tariq Yunus, Porsche Cayman, 2:03.402
- Max 5: Silvio Zucchet, Porsche Cayman, 2:05.330

- Tuner 4: Bill Denheyer, Mazda Miata, 2:08.427
- Tuner 5: Tom Bergeron, Chevrolet Corvette, 2:02.411
- Sport 3: Raghvan Madawela, Hyundai Elantra, 2:12.039
- Sport 5: Tim Havelka, Mazda MX-5, 2:12.838
Special awards were given to Jake Harris, who scored second in Max 2 but earned the Fastest Front-Wheel-Drive Award with a 2:10:462 in his Honda Civic. Whitney, of course, took home the Fastest Rear-Wheel-Drive Award in addition to the Fastest Time of the Day trophy.

The Celebrations Continue
The Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge is about more than just the quickest – it’s every competitor challenging his or herself, and it’s about the superlative awards that celebrate what happens off the track to make the Time Attack Challenge move forward.
David Webb and Mindi Cross were awarded the Crossover Award at Eagles Canyon. The two co-drove in Sport 3 at Eagles Canyon – a change of pace from their typical time in the Tire Rack SCCA Solo program. They were also fresh off their SCCA Targa Tex-ish adventure, which had just concluded its four-day, multi-state trek at Eagles Canyon.
Mat Beck was second in the Max 4 class, but he took home the award as the Time Trials Champion. Beck was recognized for his consistent effort banging the drum of not only SCCA Time Attack, but Time Attack as a sport. His podcast, with co-host Morgan Taylor, discusses all forms of racing, but regularly talks about Time Attack and SCCA.
The Spirit of Time Attack went to Mikayla Bellardini. The word that most describes Mikayla is simply “awesome,” which really captures what Time Attack is about. A spectacular event admin, Mikayla always steps up to the plate to help whenever anything is needed, all with a warm and welcoming attitude.
Up Next…
Next on the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge calendar is a May 30-31, 2026, date at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows, CA.
This event takes place across two iconic configurations at Thunderhill, the classic East Track one day, and the winding West Track the following day. Yet that’s not all the weekend has in store – from wheel-to-wheel racing to drifting, Global Time Attack, and more, this weekend will be as packed as it gets.
Can’t make it to Thunderhill? There are plenty of events still on the Time Attack Challenge calendar.
