Call it a dry heat if it makes you feel better, but the March 27-29, 2026, Tire Rack SCCA® Vegas ProSolo® (the second round in as many weeks at Las Vegas Motor Speedway) was scorching – there’s no way around it. That didn’t slow the competition for the back-to-back ProSolo weekends, though, as evidenced by the 187 entries – believed to be a record for National Solo events in Las Vegas.
Event chair Brian Newport and SCCA’s Las Vegas Region crew were gracious hosts, keeping their cool as the temps went up. Jonathan Lugod’s courses used a brisk layout to fill the space in the outside lot at the speedway.
Did we mention it was hot?
By the time Sunday’s Challenges rolled around, temperatures had pushed back into the 90s on that pavement. Consequently, a special shoutout goes to those who stayed to work the Super Challenge – and just as importantly, the Super Challenge qualifiers who volunteered to work the Bonus and Ladies Challenges. The sense of camaraderie in the Solo community is unmatched.
Candiss Peterson’s name was pulled for a future entry into a National event from all of those who stayed to work. She got a lot of attention during the weekend, too, as Peterson was also the SCCA Women on Track coaching recipient, with Jeff Jacobs coaching her and her red G Street Honda Civic through the event.
Class Highlights
It’s in this space of the event recaps where we mention some of the trophy winners, but at this event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t celebrate some of the other participants in the field instead.
How about a shoutout for the first person to use a Solo Buddy Pass in Vegas? Joellene Ordinario was invited by event chair Brian Newport, and ran her F Street Nissan 370Z in Ladies Class 2. It was quite the way to get experience in the sport – she also drew into the Bonus Challenge to extend her weekend by a few more runs.
Meanwhile, Tadao Nakata recently passed the test for his learner’s permit, so what better way to celebrate than attending your first autocross competition? Nakata and his father, Mike, rolled the family’s Mazda Exocet out of the garage and into Street 1 competition in Las Vegas, where Tadao made his first (hopefully of many) starts and Mike returned to autocross competition for the first time in 10 years.
Want to know class winners? For the competitions listed above, Kendra Mabie took the win in Ladies 2, while Andy McKee held top honors in Street 1. Those, along with everyone else and how they fared, can be found in the event’s class results:
Challenge Brackets
Las Vegas held the SCCA’s version of March Madness, with back-to-back weeks of bracket competition. But the scene featured a repeat winner – an impressive performance.
The Bonus Challenge went to Andrew Redding, who also earned a trophy with a second place in class with his Honda CRX in E Street Touring. Redding topped Jason Myers and then Marshall Hill in the final round to take the crown.
Kate Fisher missed the Ladies Challenge title at the previous weekend’s Vegas ProSolo after falling to Cindy Duncan in the final round. There was no near miss this time. Fisher sent Laurie McCelvey and Shelby Redding home in the early rounds, then topped Nicole Wong in the final to win the title during this weekend. Fisher had earned her way into the Ladies Challenge by topping Ladies Class 3 in her D Street Touring prepared Scion FRS.
But the story in the Super Challenge was, once again, Manfred Reysser and his D Street Touring Scion FR-S. Like during the previous weekend’s ProSolo competition, Reysser was all aces, winning the class and rolling through his bracket. He cleared Dennis Hubbard, Lane Farka, and top-qualifier Kevin Schultz to take the Super Challenge victory.
