Building a Spec MX-5? Now’s the Time to Act

SCCA® recently announced that Spec MX-5 would become a National Championship Runoffs® class beginning in 2024, adding fuel to an ever-increasingly hot class. Showcasing the class ahead of time, the Spec MX-5 Challenge Series Presented by Toyo Tires appeared at the 2023 Runoffs, offering spectators a taste of the racing that will soon grace the National Championship stage. And now, Mazda Motorsports is offering a sale on Spec MX-5 (SMX) parts like no other, meaning if you’ve ever thought about building an SMX car, now’s the time.

Sporting parts recently approved for SCCA SMX competition, Mazda Motorsports’s SMX parts sale will extend through Dec. 31, 2023, offering discounts Mazda Motorsports has never offered before.

“We are very excited to launch the 2024 season with the SCCA adopting Spec MX-5 to be a national class which makes it Runoffs eligible,” said Josh Smith, Mazda Motorsports’s business development manager responsible for Mazda’s grassroots racing program. “We set out to have 18-plus cars in each Hoosier Super Tour. We are just over 110 build kits sold. With another 20-30 cars built before the next race season, we will achieve our goal of continued growth year over year for this class. This is a long-term project for the department, and we will support this class for many years to come. We have been stocking up on competition and OEM parts to make sure of this.”

To take advantage of the discounts, Mazda Motorsports notes that kits must be ordered in their entirety. Kit A is the base kit, with Kit B and C serving as add-ons that provide a deeper discount. The discount gets applied to the total sum of the order.

Kit A, which includes the Penske shocks, shock mounts, Eibach Springs and swaybars, Mazda Motorsports radiator and oil cooler, header, exhaust, water pump, ECU, clutch, Pagid brakes, wheels, hard top, and more, offers a 15-percent discount.

Kit B ups the discount to 20 percent, and includes items like shock spacers, swaybar end links, coolant pipes, shock tower brace, a/c delete belt and pulley, brake ducting, hard top mounts, tow straps, and more.

Kit C adds ABS sensors, fuel pump assembly, OEM engine harness, shock adjustment knobs, crank sensor, a Torsen LSD, RX-8 front hubs, an MPI steering wheel, and more, and will bring the discount to 25 percent.
