In the News: Montana Region Autocross

When it comes to motorsports, Memorial Day weekend boasts an astounding lineup. There’s the Indy 500 – which this year (as is often the case) featured numerous SCCA® alumni amongst its ranks – and Formula One’s famed Monaco Grand Prix. This year also featured NASCAR at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the SCCA Pro Racing-sanctioned Trans Am Series at Lime Rock Park, to name a few. A lesser-known event this year was Montana Region’s Memorial Day autocross, although it did catch the eye of the local news.

KRTV 3 Great Falls reporter Ryan Gamboa headed to ExpoPark on Memorial Day weekend to check out the autocross action. Despite rain, the event didn’t miss a beat, with Montana Region member Robert Carvell taking Gamboa for a ride through the course at speed in his Ford Mustang.

“It doesn't matter what car you're in or how fast it is, you just want to improve your skills,” Carvell explained on camera. “And we build up that speed during the day and have a blast with our friends while we do it.”

Gamboa also spoke to Montana Region members Rick and Shauna Lammi, who brought cars for each of them to compete in, with the Lammis explaining what SCCA Autocross is all about.
