’23 Hallett Hoosier Super Tour: At A Glance

The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour (HST) moves into the second half of its 10-event season for 2023 with a visit to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. That race weekend, hosted by Ark Valley Race Group, takes place April 22-23 in Jennings, OK.

Thanks to the new Hoosier Super Tour enhanced video and audio package rolled out this year, you can be anywhere around the globe and still catch the races from Hallett live, online, and for free. The now familiar voices of motorsports commentators Brian Bielanski and Gregg Ginsberg will provide play-by-play commentary, and DriversEye Live will present the video broadcast featuring up to 12 cameras – plus in-car video where possible.

Finding the Hoosier Super Tour broadcast couldn’t be easier. Coverage is streamed live via the SCCA Official YouTube channel and SCCA Inc. Facebook page. Post-race video interviews with some winners from Saturday, and Sunday victory podium celebration videos can be viewed at the SCCA Road Racing Facebook page. Live Timing and Scoring will also be available throughout the weekend at www.scca.com/live. On-demand viewing of HST races from Hallett will be possible after the event and found at SCCA’s Official YouTube channel.

Live Timing/Scoring and Broadcast

For those who can make it to Jennings, the HST weekend at Hallett is open to spectators. Tickets are only $10 at the gate for single-day admission, or $25 for the whole weekend. Those presenting an active SCCA membership card at the gate will get free admission.

Happenings at Hallett

Hallett’s 1.8-mile, 10-turn track nestled in the rolling Osage Hills of Northeastern Oklahoma will be run counterclockwise for this HST visit. Official on-track activities begin at 8 a.m. CDT Saturday with 20-minute qualifying for each of seven competition groups. Racing is then scheduled to begin at 12:20 p.m. with 25-minute contests for each of the seven groups.

The well-attended and popular All Participant Dinner, which offers up some really great grub each year, will again take place Saturday evening. Then on Sunday morning, another round of 15-minute qualifying is on the schedule for the seven run groups, followed by 35-minute or 27-lap races for all.

Who’s Who at Hallett

Watching racecars take the green flag and delicately dance into Turn 1 is always a thrill at Hallett. That is especially true of well-subscribed classes, such as Spec Racer® Ford Gen3 (SRF3) and Spec Miata (SM).

There will be excitement Saturday and Sunday in run group five when the 22-car SRF3 field makes its start. Denny Stripling, who swept both SRF3 races last year at the Hallett HST event, is back to defend his turf. There will also be a couple reigning National Championship Runoffs® winners in the mix, but their titles were earned in classes other than SRF3 – basically, anything could happen.

With 16 entries, the SM field that is race group four will also be a nailbiter. A couple previous Runoffs winners are in that crowd, too, including Matt Reynolds. A former E Production National Champ, Reynolds is no stranger to Mazdas or SM competition. He triumphed in one of two SM races last year during the Hallett HST visit and has ample laps around the circuit, which certainly makes him one to watch.

Eight drivers are part of the GT-2 field found in run group three. While the competitor who swept last year’s Hallett HST GT-2 races is not on the entry list, there will still be some really cool cars to watch power around the track, including a Panoz GT-S piloted by R. Paul Evans. The GT-X class in the same run group is also bringing a few magnificent machines. That includes a Maserati Trofeo GT4 driven by Colin Cohen, and a McLaren 570s GT4 wheeled by Ray Ramirez.

With a half-dozen entries each, the Touring 4 (T4) and Formula X (FX) fields should exhilarate motorsport fans, too. Run group one is where T4 will compete, and Sergio Zlobin has to be considered a favorite there due to sweeping the weekend in T4 at last year’s HST at Hallett. Meanwhile, FX – which is part of the seventh and final run group – is wide open as far as potential winners.
