In the News: Road Racer Robin Bonanno

Robin Bonanno is not new to the Sports Car Club of America®. A member since 2000, Bonanno has been a member of Alabama Region, Atlanta Region, and now Central Florida Region, racing sports racers and formula cars along the way. While many within the Club might know of her adventures – especially thanks to this profile SCCA Women on Track recently did – because of Spectrum Bay News 9 in St. Petersburg, FL, now even more people are aware of her accomplishments.

“So, when I was younger, I always loved driving fast cars and just every car I had, I just had a sports car. I really loved it,” Bonanno told Spectrum Sports' Katya Guillaume in a nearly three-minute news segment on her. “I've been racing this one for about a year now," she said. "This is a formula Pro Mazda. It's run with a Mazda rotary engine.”

Sixty-year-old Bonanno revealed to Guillaume that her journey has not always been easy. “I've raced with cancer, with radiation wires tied to my back. I've raced with a broken leg. I've raced with all kinds of ailments.”

But in true SCCA fashion, the highs have bested any of the lows in this journey. “We keep saying, why are we still doing this?" she said. "I get in the car and I'm like, oh, I see why.”
