Runoffs Driver, Worker & Test Day Registration Opens Wednesday

Each year, hundreds of racers across North America – and often the world – flock to the SCCA National Championship Runoffs to compete in the Club’s pinnacle winner-take-all road racing event. This year, the Runoffs will be held Sept. 24-Oct 2, 2022, at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, VA, but before that happens, there are important first steps for all drivers and workers. For those looking to make their mark on this title event, Wednesday, July 13, is absolutely pivotal.

Driver and Worker Registration

Kicking off at 10 a.m. CDT on July 13 is Runoffs driver and worker registration. Links to the registration pages can be found at SCCA’s Runoffs page or via the MotorsportReg.com links at the bottom of this post. Before Wednesday comes, though, there are several key items to know – one of which being that speed counts.

For those drivers who competed at the 2021 Runoffs, your previous car number can be selected as long as you register for the same class as last year. Come 9 a.m. CDT on July 20, any “unclaimed” car numbers from the year prior will become available to all competitors. Also, the number “1” is reserved for the defending National Champion in each class.

In groups featuring combined qualifying sessions, the driver who registers first will be assigned the car number.

Test Day Registration

Test days for this year’s Runoffs are registered for during driver registration that, as stated, opens at 10 a.m. CDT on July 13.

Runoffs test days take place Saturday, Sept. 24, through Monday, Sept. 26. The Saturday test day will see a total of five run groups with an on-track race car limit of 40 per group. This day will see four sessions, three of which will be 20 minutes in length and one 25 minutes. This test day costs $795.

Sunday’s test day features seven run groups with a maximum car count of 45 cars per group. The day’s $595 fee will supply drivers with three 20-minute sessions.

A 10-group test day takes place on the Monday, with each group hitting the track twice, for 20 minutes each time. This test day fee, which features a vehicle limit of 50 cars per group, is $495.

Specifics regarding the Runoffs test days can be found here, as well as in the Runoffs event page menu.

Camping and RV spots

July 13 is also the first day drivers and workers will be able to register for RV or camping spots. Dry camping spaces are available in the South Paddock. A handful of spots with electrical hookups are available. Additional dry/primitive camping is available in designated camping areas around VIR. Workers and drivers can request a general camping pass (for an unreserved spot) by checking a box during the general registration process.

Participants can sleep in their marked paddock area at no charge.

The Countdown Begins...
